FLEXSTAY INN Shirogane

It was clean when we arrived, everything working properly. A bit small but that was expected for the price. The price-performance was great!

Sometimes the air conditioner was smelling quite bad. And only one blanket for two people.

Fab location. Nice people. Rooms are actually not bad size for the enhanced room capsule thing they are going for here - basically a bed, small kitchen and tiny bathroom but not a pod, just narrow rooms. Generally the residents seem to be local workers or longer term visitors, and I had no major issues there. It made for a fantastic base and I got it at a really good price for this location. Fantastic local supermarkets are available. Can walk to main subway and train line in 15 minutes. Quirky street feels quite hipster.

I realised after it was a smoking hotel. Frankly my room was well cleaned and I didn't notice it at all. Occasionally people smoked on the balcony near my room but that's Tokyo for you. There is a fire station at the end of the road and you will hear this at random hours. Twice in my ten day stay. The rooms are a bit of a random draw - I was on the top floor, had a electric cupboard on one side, not another room, so it felt quieter than, say, the ground floor with the laundry running and people coming and going. Because it's a cheaper hotel it does attract a range of travel types and this can mean a few rowdy people about, but again, Tokyo. I'm happy with what I paid, but I wouldn't have been if I had a lower floor room or more adjoining. Overall a bit dated but that's fine - I was hardly in the room. I would say one small room fits one normal sized adult male. Factor this if you travel in pairs and pay the upgrade. Note that there are a few catches - late check out is madly priced, getting luggage there is hard to walk as it's a hill up and down, they don't clean or change bedding unless you pay, again high cost. Factor it if you want a hotel vibe. This is a capsule vibe without perks, but you get a room not a pod.
