The property and house far exceeded our expectations and online summary
The cleanliness of the house was outstanding and the comfort of the house was superb. The Lake Michigan view was the best part. There’s literally a view from every room in the house. And the Moonlight cottage was adorable and also very comfortable with awesome views of the lake. Will be going next year also

By far the cleanest rental we have ever stayed in! The house had everything we could have asked for; wonderfully stocked kitchen, comfy and nice furniture, peace and quiet.
My husband and I stayed a week and explored the UP while using Sunset Lodge as our home base. The location was perfect and we loved watching the freighters go by every day. It was a bit chilly during our stay so the heaters in the cottage and the extra blankets came in handy! We enjoyed cooking dinner in the kitchen that had every utensil and appliance you could ask for, including an air fryer! We loved being so close to the lake and hearing the waves, even while in the house. Thank you for a lovely week!

We enjoyed our stay and would love to return. The cottage and cabin were just as described. The kitchen is very well stocked with all the essentials to eat in. We especially loved sitting out on the deck and having a nightly fire on the beach. We highly recommend this property. I only gave four stars on cleanliness due to cobwebs in both the cottage and cabin. However, everything else was just perfect!

Arrival was smooth and house was perfect. Kitchen had everything you could ask for. Views were spectacular and home was very comfortable. Great place to relax on the beach (water shoes a definite). Bonfires on the beach are a great way to spend a summer evening. Our family gives this rental a 5 stars.

Amazing views, nice access to day trips and the house is lovely.

Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house had all of the essentials we needed. The view of the lake was spectacular! We relaxed and enjoyed ourselves at this great location. We even made s’mores over the outdoor beach fire one evening. Found some good restaurants nearby and visited Mackinac Island. Thanks for a great week!

From entry to departure, we couldn’t have been happier or more comfortable! The beds/bedding were wonderful, soft sheets, warm blankets. Enjoyed the Franklin Stove in the evenings, campfires on the beach watching the sunset. Every possible thing you could need for cooking! We will definitely return - host and management were responsive and clear. Would give Sunset/Moonlight a 10 star rating!

The location of Sunset Lodge is great and the property itself is lovely. The lakefront location is amazing…the views, the breeze, the sunsets, the big ships and proximity to the bridge are all amazing. The house is well stocked especially the kitchen and games. We had no problems during our stay.
I will mention a few items that need improvement tho. The first is the shower. It’s terrible. It feels like a thousand needles hitting your skin. Second are the beds. We didn’t find them comfortable. And they were incredibly squeaky so whenever someone rolled over during the night, it in fact woke everyone else up. Third were the screens and screen doors. The screens in the kitchen and tv room sliders were either ripped or the frames were bent, thus allowing insects to come into the house. Who wants that? No one! Also, the kitchen windows on the first floor don’t lock. Some ppl care about that and some don’t…I do 🤷♀️

The pictures do not do this place justice. We spent 2 weeks here and loved every second. The location is a great home base for exploring everything in the upper peninsula. The upper rooms can be warm during the day but cool off fast in the evening. Not an issue as we were either outside or exploring. The Moonlight cabin is so peaceful with the windows wide open and the sound of waves coming in. The kitchen has absolutely everything needed. We had one hiccup when the cabin had not been cleaned on arrival. We contacted the owner who offer to send someone out. Luckily the people before us were not very messy so we just cleaned it up. The owner ended up refunded the cleaning fee without us asking.
Thank you so much for sharing your home! We hope to come again someday!

Lovely Cottage on the Lake
My family and I loved staying at this cottage on Lake Michigan. It is so clean and bright, and the water is SO close. I felt like I was sitting on the beach while sitting in the living room. The Moonlight cabin is very comfortable, too.

The view was beautiful. Lake Michigan was right at the back door and we could walk the beach a good ways in both directions. We were a couple miles from the Mackinaw Bridge and within an hour’s drive of most things we wanted to do, so the location was great. We rode the ferry from St. Ignace (10 min drive) to Mackinaw Island, which was very worthwhile. The property was convenient, but also private. The house and cabin was clean and well stocked and beds were comfortable. We stayed in the cabin and it was a little chilly for a couple of nights, but with all the blankets provided, we were never cold in bed. The owner was very responsive and provides a list of everything…places to eat, things to see and everything you need to know about the house and cabin. We had a great time and would definitely go back if we ever get to Michigan again!

I’ve rented 7 or 8 cabins over the years in Michigan to bring the family together. Mom wasn’t able to join us but I’m sure she would’ve loved this property! It was outstanding! I’ve always said we need to keep trying new cabins but I’m pretty sure I’m renting this one again! View spectacular, house outstanding. The pictures didn’t do this property justice! You will not be disappointed. The moonlight cabin was awesome but needed a built in heater! That is my only critique. Our stay was amazing! Plus I came up after the frankenmuth car show and saw something I would have loved to have seen closer. LOL! Also the past guest left us firewood so we did the same. If you need firewood go west on hwy 2 a few miles past the mystery spot and there is a place on the left with real wood that beats that crap they sell at the stores. Again this place was awesome and I plan to return again! Thanks for allowing us to experience your beautiful home.

Sunset Lodge is a charming and delightful cottage with all the amenities you could hope for in a vacation getaway. It is conveniently located, and we were able to use it as a home base to do trips to Tahquamenon Falls, Pictured Rocks, Kitch-iti-kipi, Mackinac Island, and the International Dark Sky Park, in addition to some of the local attractions such as the Mystery Spot and Castle Rock. We enjoyed morning coffee on the deck and sunsets by the fire, along with great naps in Moonlight Cabin, which is an extra cabin on the property.

Amazing Family Vacation
Quiet, Clean, Relaxing! We could have used some more indoor bedrooms as there were 5 of us. We did not use the moonlight cabin as we have young children and felt uncomfortable leaving them. However we just kicked our 12 year old to the couch for the week! She didn’t mind having the whole downstairs to her self though!! We really had the best vacation!! Well worth it!

Wonderful place!
We really enjoyed our stay here! The area is gorgeous and peaceful, and the cabin was very clean. The beds were comfortable. We hung out at the cabin and the sandy dune beach just down US-2, and took day trips to Tahquamenon Falls and Mackinaw Island. We all enjoyed it and will definitely come back for future trips! Our 5 year old daughter loved finding rocks and building with them on the beach. One thing to note is the second bedroom is a loft, so it’s very bright. If you have young children, they’ll be up with the sun every day. I knew that it was a loft when I booked, I just didn’t consider the early mornings. Still, it didn’t hamper our enjoyment and we definitely would like to stay here again! It ended up being one of our favorite vacations.

The property was everything we wanted and more. This year has been rough. We needed an escape and the Sunset Lodge delivered! My son and I loved to hangout in our "secret fort" aka the Moonlight Lodge. My hubby enjoyed rock collecting. We just had a really great time. We look forward to staying again.

Perfect Retreat!
Sunset Lodge is even more beautiful in person. The moment we walked onto the property we said "we should have booked two weeks instead of one!". Everything is sparkling clean and comfortable, the kitchen is fully stocked with everything you need, and of course the waterfront is just amazing. We spent every evening (aside from the rainy ones) watching the sunset by the campfire. Falling asleep to the sound of the waves was the perfect way to end each day.

A Great Spot on Lake Michigan
We stayed here for two weeks in July 2020, hoping to find a spot to get away to a remote spot. The location was just remote enough for us to avoid crowds but close enough to everything for us to get groceries when needed.
We arrived to a very clean, bright, and cheery cottage. The main living area and kitchen had a great view of the lake and lots of light and windows to open so the breeze could come in. As stated, the house does not have A/C but with fans we stayed cool at night. There is a full bathroom on the main floor, a bedroom with a queen bed upstairs, and a loft area with two twins adjacent to the bedroom (the loft doesn't cool off at night quite as much as the bedroom but our kids still slept like rocks). The moonlight cabin is right next to the house and practically on the water (stayed cool at night without fans). We had an amazing view of the moon on the water at night from the aptly named moonlight cabin (there is a sink and a toilet in the cabin, no hot water but perfect for brushing teeth/washing up).
Lake Michigan...... cold and clear and gorgeous. A family of grebes came out of the woods to the west every morning and swam around, we also had a pair of mute swans that glided by each morning. The beach area at the house is stone (unlmited supply of skipping stones) and had a great spot for a fire (you'll want shoes for swimming). Plenty of drifted debris available for kindling. The water was REALLY chilly our first week there but gradually warmed up the second week. As a native northerner, I didn't mind the chilly water. There is a great (and uncrowded) sandy beach about 15 minutes west on highway 2 where the water is a bit warmer. We were pleasantly surprised by the lack of mosquitoes and biting flies (there were some, but not like you might expect) There was one night of a mayfly hatch, which was cool to see.....
What else? The new Wifi at the house was 5G (I think) and worked fabulously, making it easy to get some work done when needed. We didn't really use the cable as we hooked the TV up to our laptops via HDMI if we wanted to watch a movie on Netflix or Prime.
Water for the entire house is pulled right from the lake and is delicious, no need for bottled water, and if you just read the instructions for the filter, it's easy to manage. Water pressure stays good if you don't run a sprinkler or dishwasher at the same time as the shower. Long review but this place is great and we loved our time there!

We loved the proximity to the Lake.

Beautiful location
We spent a week on the lake, and truly enjoyed the experience. Mackinac Island and many other state parks are nearby. Most restaurants did not offer carry out, so be prepared with essential groceries.

The property is beautiful! All your needs are covered at this house, easy location for visiting most UP must see sites!

House was very nice but unfortunately the weather was cold and rainy most of the week
We enjoyed the house. It was very nice. The only problem we encountered was that route 2 was detoured but unbeknownst to us it was open as far as we needed to go. We drove many miles further than necessary chasing the detour

Awesome property with a great view
We enjoyed our stay at sunset lodge, it was everything we had hoped for. Awesome views of the lake and freighters passing by, fires on the beach while enjoying the sunset, and the relaxing sound of waves crashing against the shore. The cottage is nicely decorated, clean and well kept. We hope to return in the future.

A lovely week on the lake
Sunset Lodge is very lovingly cared for and well-maintained. The decor is beautiful and the owners offer many little extras such as plenty of towels, blanket, soft sheets, comfy pillows and anything you could ever need in the kitchen. The location is fantastic and no air conditioning was not a problem even mid-July. They offer very detailed and clear instructions for the house and property including how to change the filter for the lake water filtration system. We were there at a time of high surf and it had to be done frequently (because of the sand clogging it I believe) or else we would lose all water pressure. Swimming at the house was great (water shoes neccessary) and the water was crystal clear. The moonlight cabin on the property was clean, bug-free and adorable and listening to the surf right outside the window was very relaxing. The only complaint we really had was that there was no Wifi as was listed on VRBO and although the owners said there was excellent cell service all four of us (with 3 major carriers) had very patchy service which was not strong enough to set up a hotspot. We were able to use 3G, 4G and LTE maybe half the time overall but it used up a lot of data! So if 24 hr/day communication is a must for you or you are needing it for work purposes I would look elsewhere but we took it as an opportunity to unplug some and enjoy the beautiful and secluded setting. Thank you for the fantastic week!

Cute cottage by the lake
Very cute cottage style home. Very close to the water. Garage was not included. The only drawback to this home was one small shower. No bath on bedroom level in main house. The cabin had a half bath. We enjoyed our stay here and the kitchen was adequately supplied as was the rest of the property. Very convenient to all the activities in the St. Ignace area. Close to shops and food although not walking distance. Owner left a list of info for the area that was very helpful. Bedding was very comfortable. Would defiantly recommend this property and use again.
