This lakefront cottage is located on the south shore of beautiful Torch Lake. This main cottage features 4 bedrooms and 2 baths. In addition, there is a small private 1 bedroom cottage called the captains quarters on the property with 1 queen bed and a mini fridge, making a total of 5 bedrooms. The cottage has gorgeous views of the lake, beautiful sandy lake bottom, a private dock, small mooring buoy a family sitting area with a Roku w/Sling TV and WIFI. Upper level Master Bedroom includes a king bed and sofa sleeper, with a sliding door leading out to the deck overlooking the lake, perfect for morning coffee or evening drinks. The master suite has a mini fridge as well. Julie and I have stayed at cottages on Torch Lake for many years so we have items at our cottage that we would want. Needless to say, no item will be overlooked :-) Equally suitable for families with young children, a fun girls getaway, or older couples, it comfortably sleeps 16 people in beds. The Captains Quarters, which is a separate quaint cottage with 1 queen bed, is located in a separate private cottage on the property. The cottage sits on 75 feet of private Torch lake front, including a sandy beach and a private dock. The lake's sandy bottom is shallow for a fair distance, making it ideal for children. The cottage has a driveway with plenty of space for parking cars and a trailer. The cottage sits on the south end of Torch lake, with convenient access to the famous Torch Lake sandbar. There is one sitting area downstairs with a large flat screen TV and cable TV. The Master Bedroom upstairs has a/c, a flat screen TV screen w/cable and a mini fridge. For those few and far between rainy days, we will have a cocktail arcade table game for your enjoyment! There will be renovations this fall, winter, and upcoming spring which will include a landscaping overhaul, fresh paint throughout, new furniture, bedding and mattresses. In addition, a propane BBQ and beach towels will also be made available. There is a deck facing the lake, with an outdoor dining table. Upstairs there is a small deck, perfect for viewing gorgeous Torch Lake. We recently purchased this cottage and are in the process of making dramatic landscaping and updates throughout the home! Virtually every bed, rug, towel, linen and picture will be brand new! Before and after pictures to follow! Torch Lake was named the third most beautiful lake in the world by National Geographic Magazine. The water is so clear you can see the sandy bottom all the way out to the 'drop-off.' On sunny days, the lake has ribbons of turquoise color that are reminiscent of the Caribbean. Torch is 19 miles long and about two miles wide and is part of a chain of lakes which allows boating from Elk Rapids to Bellaire. You can easily boat through the Torch River to Lake Skegemog and Elk Lake. Or equally as fun, you can boat to Dockside Restaurant, then take the 5 minute ride through Clam River to to Clam Lake, through the Grass River into Lake Bellaire. A 10 minute drive takes you to the small and charming village of Alden. It has one of Torch Lake's four public boat ramps, a number of restaurants (both casual and fine cuisine), art galleries, a variety of shops, a playground, a public tennis court, and a library. Green woods and broad fields extend out from the town, offering great cycling and walking. The town of Bellaire is well worth visiting, and eat at our favorite, Short's Brewery. The Glacial Hills Natural pathway is 20 minutes away, with many trails for hiking and biking. It is well worth your visit. Traverse City is only 30 minutes from the cottage. The towns of Charlevoix, the Leelanau Peninsula, and Petoskey are all within an hour's drive. Should you choose to venture further, Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes and Mackinac Island are well worth visiting.

We had the best time! As described on VRBO this property is great, but when you arrive you realize it's amazing. There is lots of space for everyone, it's not too close to the road so the kids can run around, and the water is shallow and perfect for young (and older) kids. We plan to go back every year for as long as they'll have us.

We were fined $200 for the place being "trashed" . We didn't leave any garbage, we put things back where we found them inside and out and even stripped the beds and brought the sheets to the washer along with probably all of the towels. Other than standard cleaning, I can't imagine what they're referring to, let alone to the tune of $200. He never answered my message explaining all this and wondering what he's basing it on so it feels like a money grab to me.

Great property, Bad Owner
Great property, Bad Owner
This property is great for sleeping a lot of people. Could use some beds in the loft above the garage. Great location pretty much on the sandbar. Shallow water so the boat ride to deeper water takes awhile-there’s definitely no diving off the dock. Owner told us we couldn’t move picnic tables which was odd since the house rules stated “if you move any outdoor furniture please return it before the next guests arrive”. As soon as we moved them we got a message from the owner as if we were being watched. It was really weird. Owner did not reply to my question asking if we could simply park at the property before check in so that we could get out on the water in our boat as there is no parking at the boat launch. I would have thought this would be an easy accommodation given the size of the driveway. When we checked in I checked out the captain’s quarters cottage and when I went to open the screen door it came right off the hinge and molding. I notified the owner immediately and was later charged $200 for this damage that was not caused by me. Someone came and replaced the door-which did not need to be replaced-the door hinges and the way it was attached to the molding needed to be fixed. My husband could have done it in 20 minutes. This property was being sold while we were there and we spent time cleaning it for the appraiser just to be nice. Overall it was a Great vacation that left a sour taste in our mouths over the inaccurate damage charge. We took great care of the place as if it was our own.

Lovely quiet getaway
Lovely quiet getaway
Was at the house after Labor Day for a bachelorette party get away with a group of 10 40ish ladies. Had such a lovely time, the house had everything we needed. The joy of after Labor Day was a much quieter but still swimmable lake! Half our group wants to bring their families back next year.
