Very Good Week at the Beach
Very Good Week at the Beach
We had a wonderful time at Becca’s Beach Retreat! The house is essentially right on the beach and the beach is really nice - quiet, nice sand, lots of seashell hunting opportunities, and some good surf watching! It was too cold and windy during our visit to really test out the waters, but I’m sure during the summer there’s some good boogie boarding to be done! We brought our kite, which was perfect for flying. I read the description, but the house definitely is larger than you think and many bedrooms. There were some kitchen towel and a wash cloth, but make sure to bring/rent bath towels, hand towels, beach towels, paper towel, toilet paper, dish soap, dishwasher tabs, hand soap, trash bags. I think each bedroom had its own bathroom except for the double bunk room, but there was a half bath between the 3rd-4th floor. The kitchen has 2 of just about anything for baking cakes, cupcakes, cooking some large meals - electric skillets, crock pot, blenders, a professional grade kitchenaid mixer, and 2 dishwashers to help clean up all that cooking. The only spices were some salt and pepper, and the fridge was cleaned out so plan to bring/buy your spices and condiments. The speaker system is no joke - nice work there! Sometimes we couldn’t figure out how to get the sound to work correctly but when we did, it’s amazing. The beds did all have a comforter on top (we brought ours mistakenly), some closets/drawers had spare blankets too, and there were pillows, so just bring your own sheets and pillow cases. There were night lights throughout the house to use. The elevator did work and was very helpful unloading our very packed car. The grill is gas and worked great. One of the biggest reasons we booked this house was for the pool, but unfortunately we weren’t able to actually use it since it was too cold. It was full of sand, as they mentioned with the constant wind that can happen, but I’m sure they would clean it if intended to be used. We came the first weekend it was supposed to be “open” so we’re not sure if that played a factor or because it was so cold. The hot tub was definitely nice!! The house did have a few beach toys in what my son called the “outdoor sandbox” next to the outdoor shower (which was nice to rinse off on before heading indoors). But the best part was dolphin watching! And we got to watch sunrise & sunsets. Definitely a great week, thank you!

We really enjoyed our stay. The views were amazing. There had been a bad sand storm shortly before we arrived and it was impossible for my mom to get out on to the beach from the house. But spending time with my family was great.

We did not get to go to the house because of flooding, and all of highway 12 was closed. We found a motel and stayed there. The next day (Sunday) we went to the office and were told we had to wait for the house to be cleaned, this was told to us by a younger woman with an attitude problem. After waiting over 4 hours for the house to be cleaned we finally got access to the house. We could not use the pool because it had not been cleaned. Someone was supposed to come 3 different days & did not show. The last day we got to stick our feet in the pool-but it was just so dirty-we couldn't get in. The hot tub was leaking badly & it took 2 more days for someone to show up to look at it. We used it the night before we were to leave. The elevator was torn up 4 times. It took 4 different visits by repair people before it was fixed-then we still did not have access to the 3rd floor-for fear of being trapped there, again. One would come to fix it and then it would go out again. one man said we needed to carry a screwdriver so we could move the spring in case it stopped on us again. I needed the elevator so I could get to my room. I felt like a prisoner. When it broke in the late evening a man who worked overtime fixed it so I could get to my room. During this process I called the office & the woman that answered the phone asked if we needed to use the 3rd floor. We did not get to use it-so I paid for a floor that we could not use. Every time they fixed the elevator it did the same thing. I called and told a woman at Surf or Sound what was going on, she wanted to know after I told her some of the issues and that things were still torn up and not fixed like they said there were. she wanted to know "why are you still staying there" laughed and hung up on me. I called again and a "nicer" woman answered. She said they would send yet another repairman out & create another work order. The handicap house was not for the handicapped. There were no railings anywhere. None in the bathroom, bedrooms, or hallways. The commode was so small it was difficult to use, plus no railings. The only thing that was handicapped in the house was the shower-which also had no railings of any kind. There was no handicap access to the pool, hot tub, or decks. I was so disappointed. The house being for the handicapped was the only reason that we chose this house and the elevator. Bad choice, I am elderly and this will probably be my last time to see the ocean. Do not stay here.
