Location, staff, breakfasts, atmosphere -not like a bland hotel

The staff were really friendly, helpful and accommodating. The breakfast was excellent and the hotel is in a good location.
I would have loved a kettle in the room or somewhere to access freely in the hotel

This has been our main "go to" hotel option in San Jose/Alajuela for well over 14 years now, since we've been traveling to/ residing in Costa Rica. We love the close proximity to the Mepe Terminal, and overall location and proximity to pharmacies, restaurants, and mini grocery markets. The included breakfast buffet is a huge plus before taking long bus trips to the Caribbean side, or before having early afternoon flights from the airport. The staff is always super friendly and helpful, and they're constantly making improvements to the hotel, although we've never had any cause for complaints in the past. They also offer late check in options now, which is great if you arrive on a late evening flight.

Conveniently located to downtown San Jose. Housekeeping was done well. The night receptionist was friendly.
Breakfast hotel employees were not welcoming. They watched us as we chose our food as if we hadn't already paid to be there. We were not wastefu, as the food itself was good and we do not serve ourselves what we won't eat. On our last morning there the water went out and my husband was not able to shower, he had to use the dripping sink water to rinse off. I understand it wasn't something the hotel could control but there was zero effort to check on guests. We were given only a half hearted apology at the desk upon checkout.
Some additional side notes:
the restroom sink has a terrible design making it really hard to wash hands without spilling water out;
there was no AC or fan in the room, wouldn't be as much a problem if we had access to windows but ours led directly to the attached restaurant;
also i was just not a fan of some of the art, especially the diablos and witches (this is a personal preference but if I'd read on review beforehand I could've made better decision)
