I felt I wanted at least one part of my Japan trip to be spent in a Ryokan. I think I made a good choice. The hotel is really nice and the staff were really efficient. They have a bath and restaurant on site. I took advantage of the baths several times...nice way to end a day of walking and sightseeing. The internal gardens were exquisite and shows what the Japanese can do with a small space...genius. I got to meet the person who was responsible for the garden and he was very friendly. He is very proud of his work and he deserves to be. The restaurant is very good. I think the Wagyu Beef Shabu Shabu I had there is a dinner I will remember for a long time. The location is slightly off the main tourist area which is what I wanted. But that means if you don't eat at the ryokan you might have to walk a bit because a lot of the nearby eateries close down early. I'll take being in a less touristy area anyway. The Nanzenji Temple is a short walk away and is a good way to start your morning since the grounds are open early. There's a good coffee shop across the street but it doesn't open till 9.00 a.m.

We stayed for two nights and had great experience. The staff were incredibly generous and helpful, and the food was probably the best we had in the area. The hotel has a restaurant open to the public, serving authentic, high-quality food. The breakfast room has a view over a pond filled with golden carp. You’ll be given fish food if you’d like to feed them. Location-wise, it’s a smart choice. We really had a great time and would def stay again.

We came to see traditional accomodation and that’s what we got. The japanese garden at the back is so beautiful.
