The accommodation has previously been a cafe and has full amenities to run your on cafe for the family! Toaster oven, coffee makers, stove, ice maker, full size fridge, microwave oven, etc. This was extremely handy, especially considering there is a big supermarket across the road.
The rooms are very comfortable and there's plenty of space for your stuff. There is only one shower, but in that single one the water pressure is better than in any hotel we've ever been (better than in home, actually).
These are already worth 10 star review, but they're not the best thing about Castana - it's the staff! They're the friendliest most welcoming and helpful staff I've ever had the pleasure to encounter. They helped with everything we needed help with and truly went well above and beyond making sure we had a fantastic stay.
It's not that we will stay in Castana if we ever visit Matsumoto again -- we will visit Matsumoto _to_ stay in Castana and meet the staff again!
The location is a bit mixed. On the other hand, it's truly great - supermarket across the road, 2 konbinis within 5 minute walk, a lot of good food places next door (our favorites were Komeda's Coffee for breakfast and Sushiro for way too much sushi), then on the other hand, the surrounding area is a bit industrial and you need a taxi/car to get to the city center. When we arrived, this was a bit of concern, but it did not end up impacting our stay at all - the staff helped us on our transportations and for most of the places we visited, we would've taken taxi/car anyhow!

Lovely, characterful place with a very chilled vibe. Very close to a supermarket and parking right outside. Hosts were exceptional - collected us from the station and dropped us off there in the morning to catch an early train. Super friendly and kind. Although it is not walkable to the city centre I would still highly recommend this place.

Het oogt als een café met meerdere slaapplekken maar de hele ruimte was voor ons. Mooi en liefdevol ingericht. Heel aardige gastvrouwen.
Het ligt op een strip tegenover een enorm parkeerterrein en een supermarkt, best ver uit het centrum. Merkwaardig maar ook grappig. En het is ‘s nachts heerlijk rustig.

Good location, with a big supermarket located just steps away from the house. We bought fresh produce and cooked dinner for both nights. You can also get sashimi at half price after 7pm+.
Bed was a tad narrower than most beds. All of us are below 60kg so it was okay.
