Our street is in a quiet residential neighborhood where the sounds you are most likely to encounter are the distant squawks of our backyard chickens, the pitter-patter of raindrops on the skylight, or the occasional children's squeal, dog bark or motorcycle rumble. The space Jewel in the Sky is a converted loft above our garage using all new construction and furnishings to give you a truly luxurious and modern get-away experience. The interior style is meant to make you feel refreshed, energized and comfortable. You have your choice of flooding sunshine or blackout darkness with our flexible window options/features. The 340 sq. ft. space resembles a studio loft that offers an open floor plan with a vaulted ceiling and a private full bathroom with tiled shower/tub. The central skylight offers a partial view of very old Douglas Fir and Western Red Cedar trees off to the west. To the east, you have views of the top of our nearby extinct volcano, Mt. Tabor (which also happens to offer numerous hiking paths and a gorgeous view of downtown Portland and the sunset). While we know many people will be out adventuring for much of your stays, we wanted a cozy place people could use as a respite from a busy life (or to enjoy for an extended-length stay). We have tried to incorporate as many of the little amenities we could think of (and fit in) so that our guests are not wanting for anything. The full kitchen offers everything you could need (and if not, I probably have it in the main house!). Kitchen amenities include: complimentary Stumptown coffee, Starbucks Hot Chocolate, Stash tea, & fresh fruit (and usually some other surprises). Kitchen appliances include a refrigerator/freezer, range, microwave, dishwasher (all standard sizes), coffeemaker, toaster, and state of the art Multi-Pure water filtration system. A tasteful selection of dishes and cookware make cooking on your vacation fun and inspiring. Of course, if you're in the mood for a fancy dinner out or trying our myriad of food carts, you'll have plenty of mouthwatering options to choose from. Main area amenities include: a 40” flat screen Smart TV on wheels (watch from anywhere!) and offers Satellite DIRECTV with 150+ channels plus apps (like Netflix, Hulu) to stream your favorite shows (using your personal subscriptions). Our unit also offers free Wi-Fi, automatic room-darkening window blinds, heat & A/C, ceiling fan, and indoor air-purifying plants. Our space can accommodate up to four people plus one baby/toddler though it is most comfortable for two people. We offer a queen bed, a queen-sized sleeper sofa and a child's pack-n-play. The queen bed is constructed with headboard shelves to easily contain personal items including C-Pap machines. We also have a plethora of children's toys, books and games to share with families. We must caution that this unit does have stairs and we do not yet offer a gated solution for young explorers. If you need the sleeper sofa, you must notify us in your reservation request so that we may have it ready for you. You will need to climb one flight of stairs to enter this unit. There are no laundry facilities on site. Nearest laundry facility is 0.7 miles away. Guest access You will access the garage loft by walking up our driveway toward the garage and entering through a side door of the garage. A keyless touch-screen deadbolt allows for easy access and security. You will have a personal code assigned to you based on the last four digits of the phone number on the reservation. Other things to note We have ability to speak in limited conversational Spanish and Japanese. KEY HOUSE RULES for JEWEL IN THE SKY 1) Please remove shoes at the front door. We would like to protect our floors and keep them shining. 2) No pets allowed as this is an allergen free unit. 3) No smoking allowed on our property. 4) Portland City Code Quiet Hours are 10pm-8am.

If i could rate this property with a 10 star rating, I would. From the excellent communications with Angela and the fact that the studio, and its amenities exceeded our expectations, we couldn't have been happier staying anywhere else. The studio was well appointed and updated. The instructions for "how to" were easy to follow. The neighborhood is very quiet and accessible to all that Portland has to offer. Thanks Angela for being such a top-notch host. I know we would definitively put in a request to stay there again when we are visiting family in the Portland area.

I can’t say enough great things about our stay! Angela was communicative throughout our stay and checked in regarding anything we may have needed to make our stay more comfortable! As someone that often forgets a necessity when packing for a trip- I really appreciated all the thoughtful extras around the Loft (ex. Soaps/makeup wipes/local coffee). I also NEED to comment on how comfortable the bed was- I have never experienced such restful sleep while traveling! Would definitely recommend to anyone traveling to Portland!

My adult son and I stayed 3 nights at this lovely studio while in town for a family wedding. The location was perfect for our needs. The host was out of town during our stay but she was in touch the whole time and all our needs and more were met from instructions to kitchen and bathroom essentials. The unit was incredibly decorated and clean, the bed and the pull out couch were both amazing and we slept great! We loved everything about our stay. The weather was very hot or we would have enjoyed the charming garden that was adjacent to us. This was my first time arranging a rental so I was unsure about what the owner expectations were for us even with the handy list of closing requirements so I truly hope we left the place to their standards. I would stay there again and recommend the rental 100%

The owners took a great deal of care in setting up this VRBO. She literally thought of everything. You’re welcomed with snacks and a beautifully decorated space. The space seems huge and is extremely clean. It’s in a great neighborhood and you get to enjoy the owners beautiful yard and chickens! Everything is labeled and provided for you, instructions are super clear, and she even has a binder with walking distances to some of the best spots in the area. I cannot give this place enough praise, and I would highly recommend it to anyone coming to Portland!

Perfect stay! Absolutely everything one could think of or ask for at a rental property was included! Super crazy clean. Everything seemed new. Fresh fruit and a whole bag of coffee! liquid creamers! First aid kit!
We did not cook so cannot speak to that but it seemed as if there was everything there- even bags and wraps etc. Great A/C. The host was beyond helpful even when we had some unusual needs/requests. The yard and the chickens ( no noise from them) it all was just quaint and beautiful. Blackout shades made the place super dark. Extremely responsive host. Will stay agin if I'm in the area.

Angela has a wonderful property and has thoughtfully anticipated everything you could need for your stay. The property is so convenient to all of the shops on and businesses on Hawthorne. Restaurants, coffee shops and even a yoga studio are just a short ten minute walk or less. Definitely looking forward to a return visit.

A great place to stay, easy walk to the shops and restaurants. Angela was very personable and when the power went out she sent her husband with a small battery pack. Fruit and a few breakfast items were available.

This studio is on top of the detached garage. It’s super clean with everything you need for cooking. The host is very friendly and responsive. The room is spacious and beautifully decorated. Tons of good restaurants within walk distance.

Wonderfully well-organized and well-stocked studio loft in a charming neighborhood in SE Hawthorne section of Portland. This property truly puts the "luxe" into loft space; the owners have created an open, bright, cozy and private loft over the detached garage on the property and furnished it with an eye toward meeting and exceeding travelers' anticipated needs. Drawers and cabinets are clearly labeled (in an eye-pleasing font) and fully stocked; space-saving ideas (such as storing exercise mats, bands and weights in the ottoman) and the abundance of windows and a skylight (all with remote control shades to achieve desired ambience and privacy) give the loft an airy feel. Towels and linens are fluffy and comfortable and the mattress is outstanding. Views of towering trees and the ridge of Mt. Tabor add to the atmosphere of an oasis in the city.
The loft has a private entrance in the detached garage, allowing guests to easily get to the great coffee shops, bakery, market, shops and restaurants that are within 3-6 block walk. The hosts are friendly, informative and responsive to issues or questions (e.g., my struggle with streaming a program was quickly solved). We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the "Luxe Loft" and would unquestionably recommend it to travelers looking for a well-appointed base from which to explore and experience the City of Roses. We hope to return ourselves for an encore stay!

I can't say enough about how great this property is. It's the perfect size and location for staying in Portland. Best of all, the amenities are well marked and all the information in using them is provided.
The owner is a true gem. We had an unforeseen issue that no one could control; but Angela went above and beyond what one would expect.
I would certainly recommend this place to others. I will definitely stay here again.

This place was perfect for my husband and I! We were celebrating our wedding anniversary. It has a cozy home feel. It’s a great location and the details like a well stocked kitchen, comfy robes, filtered water, blackout curtains, the tv on the moveable stand, were so appreciated!
Angela is super friendly and easy to communicate, with a quick response if anything was needed. It was a stormy night the first night we got in and the power went out for the block. She made sure we had enough blankets and light, keeping us updated as well on the estimated time for the power to return.
We would absolutely stay there again on our next Portland trip!! Thanks Angela!

This was one of the best appointed properties we have stayed at (and we travel often). It's not a large space but was perfect for 2 of us; the skylight and windows made it feel larger.
We enjoyed walking the neighborhood and visiting local restaurants. It was an easy bus ride into Portland but also a good location near the airport and other places of interest.

Wonderful property in a great location
My wife and I had a very enjoyable time in Portland and staying here played a big part. This very comfortable and well equiped studio leaves nothing for want. The neighborhood location allowed for easy access to great food and shopping. The owners are such great people and willing to ensure everything is as expected. This will be our "go to" place for future Portland visits.

The place looked exactly like it did in the photos, and it is in a great part of town. We loved it as soon as we walked in. Angela had clearly put in a lot of effort to make this a great place to be, and was incredibly nice/easily to work with after we had arrived. She made every effort to make sure we had a great time while we were there. We would absolutely come back and would easily recommend this listing to anyone looking to stay in Portland.

The studio is modern and has everything you need, is quite and private, and the host was fast and helpful in communication. You will need to park on the street and bring bags through a driveway and up one flight of stairs, but that was super easy and worth it for the quiet location. We would definitely stay there again.

The loft is great! Very private, clean and well organized. It felt like we were the first guests that ever rented it. A lot of little touches that made it very homey (fruit basket, snacks). A helpful manual with clear instructions, walking distances to local restaurants and shopping etc. Parking was always available. Would stay again!

We really enjoyed our stay at Angela’s! Her place is clean, felt brand new & was in an excellent location! The loft was well stocked and the furniture was all very comfortable! We enjoyed walking around the area and were only a short drive across the bridge from some “must see” spots in Portland. Angela was always quick to respond to messages and was very accommodating. Would choose to stay here again!
