Very friendly owner, despite the language barrier. I got a proper welcome and a proper goodbye from him. Walls and tatami were recently renovated and the house is full of history.
Bathroom is on another floor, and be careful if you have problems with steep stairs.

Mr. Katsura is a wonderful human being. He showed me via pictures and pamphlets different parts of Kyoto to visit and he didn’t lead me astray! I loved being able to see Kyoto through his eyes. His kind and energetic company made my solo trip to Kyoto one of my most fond memories traveling abroad. I would book again in a heartbeat! Thank you again, Mr. Katsura!
Shared bathroom facilities were not a problem for me at all as I was out all day traveling.

Dimora del secolo scorso, con interni tradizionali in stile Machiya conservati perfettamente. Il proprietario, Katsura-san, che vive nella casa, è un signore che non potrete non amare. Vi saluterà in kimono, e vi appassionerà con la sua conoscenza della città. In casa la sua presenza è stata tangibile ma rispettosa dei miei spazi. Ero l’unico ospite e la mia camera era tutto il piano di sopra, raggiungibile con delle scale molto strette e ripide (non facile con un bagaglio pesante). Il bagno è al piano di sotto, per raggiungerlo si attraversa l’area della casa in cui vive Katsura-san.
Posizione comodissima, lontana dal caos del turismo di massa, ma vicinissima a tutto ciò che si può volere da Kyoto.
Questa casa non ha comfort lussuosi, ma la conoscenza con Katsura ha reso preziosa tutta l’esperienza.
Nessun difetto particolare.
Ovviamente le comunicazioni sono rese difficili dalla barriera linguistica, ma Katsura-san trova sempre il modo di farsi capire a prescindere da quale sia la vostra lingua. Il bagno, un po’ datato, potrebbe essere un po più pulito.

Amazing host, despite the language barrier, he was incredibly helpful and the nicest person. He really cares about his hosts enjoying Kyoto and exploring his city.
It was a unique occasion to experience a traditional Japanese house, and the neighbourhood is fantastic for a quiet stay.
I liked everything, but it's not a house for everyone, as the host only speaks Japanese, and you share the facilities with him.
