We booked this property because of location and view. The penthouse has 2 outdoor decks. The first you can view out the windows and there is an electric awning to shade the chairs. You have a view of Galata tower and across the Golden Horn even before opening the door thru the glass, as well as across the golden horn to Topkapi palace, Hagia Sophia, Blue mosque, etc. Once outside on the deck you can walk around to the back of the room and there is a stair that leads to the roof of the Penthouse with an even larger and more expansive deck! You can see even more churches and mosques. Very spectacular and a great value. The street is very steep and learning how to get around is essential. We used google map which would show us walking routes to Galata tower or Taksim square---tip for easier travel--we walked down the hill and to the main street toward the water and there is the T1 line Tophane. Get on and go to the end (2 stops and about 3 minutes) and at the end of that station is the funicular that goes underground up to Taksim square. It's all down hill walking down either Itstakal street, or weave to other locations. It was fun to weave back to the room as you go thru the area Cihanger with lots of little stores, shops, restaurants, and the prices are cheaper in that area.
The place needs updating, but is such a good value. The street is very steep, but we knew that as we stayed just up the hill 2 years ago. About 5 minutes up the hill it becomes more restaurants and little stores like grocery and smaller. Good quaint area. The pictures of the Penthouse are confusing as they show the old setup and newer setup. You will note the sink area is on the far wall currently and the bed/couch are a little confused. The old picture setup seems like it would have been more comfortable. Overall this was a very good value. Elevator stops 1 floor below the penthouse and then stairwell up 1 flight for penthouse level--no big deal.
