Château de Beaulieu

Very welcoming. Lovely room with large comfortable bed. Very clean and good facilities in the room and on site. Pool immaculately clean and good loungers plus outside seating area lower down by the house. Staff were all excellent and clearly taken pride in their work. Breakfast excellent too.

Only downside is location slightly out of town. We walked into town and back in both nights of our stay - 30 minutes on flat. One small section of road nearest the chateau has no defined pavement although road is wide so felt fairly safe but may be more traffic at other times which may be a bit risky for some.

Lovely continental breakfast. Fresh fruit, croissants, freshly laid eggs.

The coffee could have been better but that’s a personal taste.

Wonderful large manor house owned by a lovely Irish lady called Mary, managed with a small staff. Great breakfast, could have asked for anything but what was provided was great. Met interesting people at the communal breakfast table. Nice pool, well kept, pool towels supplied. Lovely large bedroom (large as in 'enormous') comfortable, peaceful, huge bathroom. A powerful fan was supplied in a very hot spell in France. We rented bikes through Mary, and an English chap living in Saumur bought them over. We did some 30k plus along the Loire, accidentally getting involved with the annual vintage bike festival which seems to take over Saumur at the end of June https://www.anjou-velo-vintage.com/en/ which was great fun. We are thinking of signing up for June 2027. We took the opportunity to do some Cremant tasting and ended up buying 7 cases at Chateau de Parnay for our son's wedding in the Dordogne in the next week. Next day went further a-field in the car to Château de Chenonceau which was amazing. No restaurant at Beaulieu so we went next door to the 'bistro' attached to the winery the first night then to their fancy restaurant the second (preferred the bistro). Went to Amuse Bouche the third night, all within walking distance. Mary supplies beers and drinks in an 'honestly bar' fridge which you pay-for upon departure. Would be very happy to stay again.

What’s not to like? Quirky and charming property, excellent breakfast, great swimming pool and well laced for getting to Saumur and various eateries.
