About this house rental
The Kennebunk Cottage is a one of a kind home with a retro flair that offers three bedrooms, two full baths and room for nine people comfortably. Originally built in the early 1980s, the home underwent a major renovation in 2017 to bring it up to the Kennebunk House standards. Fresh paint inside and out, new furnishings and bedding are just the start: a new deck and folding glass NanaWalls bring the outside in and wonderful views of the ocean into the second-floor common area. A recently completed (Summer 2021) first floor renovation creates an additional common area, with a foosball table, seating, smart TV, and a glass garage door opening up to a covered bistro seating area. House is fully air conditioned. An outdoor shower is available for our guests' enjoyment, which is particularly useful after a day at the beach! A block back from the ocean and walking distance to three beaches (less than 200 yards, the closest being the sandy Mother's Beach (including a great playground for kids) and the rocky Middle Beach) and Webhannet Golf Club , this quiet location offers easy access to all the Kennebunks have to offer. We enjoyed our stay at this lovely property. Close to the beach and Kennebunkport. The deck with an ocean view was perfect when not at the beach. House was spacious and clean. Great family vacation!

Overall we LOVED our stay! Cannot beat the location! The house has everything you need in the kitchen. There were a lot beach toys that had been left behind by others. Our biggest complaint was the beds. Would have been nice to have one king available. Since we flew in for our vacation not having sheets, towels, soap, etc wasn't ideal but we made it work. Walmart delivery was key.

The location of the Kennebunk Cottage, as well as the outdoor deck, deserve 5 stars undoubtedly. All things considered, however, the cottage could use some improvements.
Given the proximity to the ocean, it is understandably a bit damp inside the cottage; the rugs give off a damp, musty odor in all of the bedrooms. It would be much better if the bedroom carpets were replaced by hardwood flooring (easier to clean too!). During our stay, we had a couple days of high heat and humidity, and the top floor kids’ style bunk room (where our 14-month-old was sleeping) exhibited a nearly unbearable odor. I contacted the owner, and he had a cleaner come by the following day. She did her best, but the carpet is old and not much could be done.
The outdoor shower was great (we barely used the indoor shower!), but as another reviewer commented, it could very simply be improved with hooks. To second a past review, the windows could be updated to open more easily and allow for greater airflow in the bedrooms. This may also help with the smell. We couldn’t even open one of the windows in the bottom floor bedroom.
Overall, the location was amazing, just a few minutes walk to Mother’s Beach (and Gooch’s). Would consider staying again only if the bedrooms were updated.
