TL;DR: Cadlao Resort and Restaurant is like a real-life White Lotus dream. Don’t hesitate for a moment to book this uber-chic, serene, tropical getaway.
I stayed at Cadlao for three nights as part of a whirlwind tour of the southern islands of the Philippines. Unfortunately, my flight couldn’t get into the local airport due to weather/wind/rain, and we diverted to Puerto Princesa. That meant a 6+ hour van ride and a 1:30 a.m. arrival at Cadlao. Through it all, however, communication was excellent via WhatsApp. They arranged for the night security guard to meet me/escort me to my room and we did the rest of the check-in formalities in the morning.
The room was small, which is exactly what I was expecting, but it was perfectly appointed. The Wifi was fast, the water was hot, the bed was comfy, and I really enjoyed sitting outside on the balcony/patio. I very much enjoyed the absence of TV/phone.
Breakfast was included and it was plentiful and delicious. Lots of options, both local and Western, that will satisfy all tastes. I had cocktails at the restaurant twice as well, and dinner once. I would describe the food as gourmet dining. The flavor and presentation is top-notch for sure.
The high point of the whole experience truly was the warmth and hospitality of the staff. What wonderful people who seem to genuinely care about creating great spaces, memories, and experiences for their guests. I truly appreciated it, and truly hope I can return someday.
(A note about the restaurant: this was honestly the low point of the stay for me, and it didn’t really have anything to do with the hotel—sort of. Every single meal I had at the restaurant was interrupted, sometimes grossly, by selfish guests blasting TikTok videos or making video calls or playing loud WhatApp audio messages, etc., etc. I understand in our digitally-obsessed world we may not be able to appropriately police ourselves when 1) in public and 2) in one of the most beautiful places in the entire world, that being said, I think it’s high time hotels and resorts start protecting their guests by completely banning phones, or at least completely banning any telephone audio in public spaces. Cadlao has clearly spent an enormous amount of time and money—quite successfully I might add—to create a magical place which is promptly ruined by a few, or many, boisterous electronic devices.)

The staff are very kind and helpful. The resort is well maintained and clean, there are 3 pools that are clean and have a great view. Our room was clean and comfortable.
The hotel is located 5 mins off the main street, but the resort has a 24/7 shuttle service that brings you close by.
We didn’t eat at the resort, there are a few close restaurants which are fine. There is also a close by laundry service.
The road to the hotel is a little bumpy and when we were there, it was flooded so you cant really walk to the hotel. But there is the tuk tuk service for that.

Overall stay is good the vibe and cleanliness is on top. I did had an unexpected issue in my room but around midnight and the maintenance resolve on call that time rectify and check it right away then the next day they checked it again when i asked. I love how and some of the reception and housekeeping is accommodating & courteous with every question or request I have. The view is breathtaking and quiet which is 10/10 for anyone seeking downtime in El nido this is a recommended place
The only thing I didn’t really like was an interaction with one of the restaurant staff members. We were a group of Filipino colleagues staying at the property, and we were asked if we were working or simply walk-ins. The staff member then continued asking if we were staying, which rooms we were staying in, and after we answered, simply said “okay” before changing the topic to ask if we wanted swimming towels and then walking away.
I understand that most of your guests are foreigners and that there can sometimes be misunderstandings, and I completely understand the need for staff to verify whether someone is a guest. However, it was a little sad that we seemed to be the only ones questioned in this way, especially since we had already paid in full and were legitimate guests of the property.
Perhaps it was simply a misunderstanding, but the way the questions were asked made us feel a little uncomfortable, as though we were being treated as random walk-ins rather than guests. I just hope that in the future, these kinds of questions can be asked in a more polite and welcoming way, without making guests feel singled out.
