We had a fantastic stay at Sukau Tomanggong View Bed & Breakfast.
The accommodation itself is simple, but it is exactly in line with the description and very good value for money. Our room was adequately clean and comfortable for the price.
What really made our stay special was the staff and the guides. Everyone was extremely friendly, helpful and always available to assist us. They went above and beyond to make our experience memorable. For example, when elephants were spotted in an area that could only be reached by car, they kindly offered to take us there so that we could see them.
We were also very lucky with the wildlife sightings during our stay and managed to see all the animals we were hoping for, including elephants and orangutans. Of course, sightings can never be guaranteed, but the guides were knowledgeable and clearly very committed to helping guests have the best possible experience.
There is also a restaurant just opposite the B&B, which we found to be good and very affordable.
Overall, we highly recommend this place, especially for anyone looking for a simple, authentic and affordable base for exploring the Kinabatangan River. The kindness and availability of the staff and guides really made the difference.
If I had to give a couple of suggestions: I would add a bedsheet underneath the duvet and replace the towels, as they are a little yellowed.

The room was fine, clean, better than we expected.
We stayed 2 nights and did 6 cruises. We saw various animals and birds during the cruises, including orangutans, proboscis monkeys, other monkeys, crocodiles, hornbills. Unfortunately, we didn't see any elephants - we were told that they were too far, 2h away by boat, and the hotel was not offering tours to reach them. The start of the morning cruise is very atmospheric with the rising mist, and we enjoyed the bright stars during the night cruise.
It was interesting to see large fruit bats flying in the evening and feeding on the trees right next to the hotel.
The hotel arranged private transport for us from and to Sepilok, at the time requested by us (250 rm one way for 2 people). The car was good and on time both times.
It was a bit difficult to get responses from the hotel via Booking.com messages, but via WhatsApp the communication was much better.
The guides did not seem very enthusiastic during the cruises, sometimes they preferred to just chat to each other and check their phones while slowly and aimlessly drifting in the middle of the river. We understand that this is nature and no sightings are guaranteed, but it is nice if the guide is at least trying to look for animals.
The area around the hotel is not pretty, and there isn't anything to do between the cruises. We were considering staying for 3 nights at first, and we were glad that we decided to stay only 2 nights. This is more than enough time to do the cruises and see most animals; after a while, the cruises become repetitive. For example, as there wasn't much to do, we bought another night cruise, and it turned out that the route and the animals were exactly the same - it's not possible to see anything different on a night cruise (unlike during morning or afternoon, as those routes can vary a bit).
You are asked to wear life jackets which stink with sweat.
The jungle walk is very overpriced and not worth it. They say that 30rm is for the guide and 30rm is the entrance fee, but later the guide told us that the area is free to enter (unlike a different area where they used to do the jungle walk in the past). So they continue to charge the "entrance fee" for something that is free to enter. During the walk, you can see some plants and insects, which was interesting enough, but not justifying the price.
The food served by the hotel restaurant as part of the package was poor. Meat was of very low quality. But the papaya served for dinner was really nice.
No duvet cover (but they said they wash the duvets).

Good location for river cruises, room was basic but good value for money. Not a great deal to do between the times of the river cruises, but can sit in the restaurant right next to the river and watch the wildlife.
The restaurant needs some updating, very limited choice at breakfast, would have been good to have a bit of fresh fruit. This is the only place near to accommodation to eat. Lunch and dinner was ok, drinks and water very reasonable.

The food was excellent, and they adapted very well to my vegetarian diet, which I really appreciated.
One of the highlights of my stay was Jaidi, one of the guides. He is very knowledgeable about the area and wildlife, and his expertise made the excursions genuinely interesting. I also really appreciated the fact that the excursions were organised in small groups, which made the experience much more personal and enjoyable.
The accommodation itself is decent and functional, but quite basic, and I found the overall cleanliness to be average. Some basic amenities are also missing: there is no hairdryer, which is particularly inconvenient in an area where it rains so frequently, and no shampoo or conditioner is provided, only a bar of soap.
The main issue, however, was communication and organisation at reception. Communication with Hana was inconsistent: messages were answered irregularly, and information about shuttle departure times and excursions was often limited or provided too late. At times, I actually received more useful information from other guests than from reception.
For example, I only found out through other guests that there was an opportunity to organise an excursion to try to see the elephants. This was never proactively offered to us. When we asked about it, we were told to find other guests ourselves in order to form a group, rather than reception informing interested guests and coordinating the activity.
My biggest concern was the handling of payments. Payments made during the stay were not accompanied by receipts or written confirmation at the time of payment, as we were told receipts would only be provided at the end of the stay. With several activities and separate payments, this makes it unnecessarily difficult to keep track of what has already been paid and what is still outstanding. As a precaution, I had to make sure there was a written record myself after every payment. In my opinion, every payment should be properly recorded and acknowledged when it is made.
Overall, there are some genuinely good aspects, particularly the food and the quality of the excursions with Jaidi, but the poor communication, organisation and payment management made the stay unnecessarily frustrating. With a more organised and transparent reception service, the experience could be significantly better.
