The location is off the charts great. The building is ornate, beautiful and well kept. There are several terraces and little areas that you can relax and almost feel Italian.
The air conditioning units make the most frightful noises but they work. Once one gets over( or used to) the particular noises of the unit - it’s ok. It’s a nice touch that you can individually set it for your room

The hotel is very well located. I only stayed for one night and had originally booked another hotel, but when I saw a discounted rate for a single room at Hotel California, with breakfast included, I decided to rebook.
I arrived before check-in and was able to leave my luggage at the hotel. The reception is open 24 hours, which is very convenient.
The room I received was actually different from the photos, but in a good way. It was much larger than expected and had a double bed. There was complimentary water in the fridge and toiletries in the bathroom. The hotel itself is quite old, but the room was clean.
At first there was no hot water, but I realized that the electric boiler only starts working once the room key card is inserted to activate the electricity. After about 15–20 minutes, there was hot water.
For the €90 I paid for the single room, I think it was reasonable for Florence.
The air conditioning is very old and loud, so I had to turn it off during the night. Opening the window was not really an option because of the mosquitoes.
The biggest problem was the lack of soundproofing. At around 4 a.m., I was woken up by another guest speaking loudly on the phone with the speaker on. I could hear both sides of the conversation as clearly as if they were in my room, and this continued for more than an hour.
The bed was not particularly comfortable, although it was fine for one night.
The breakfast was also disappointing. The selection was very limited and not particularly appetizing. Since it was included in my rate, it was acceptable, but I would not recommend paying extra for it.
Overall, the hotel feels quite dated. It is advertised as a four-star hotel, but in my opinion the experience is closer to a basic three-star property.
