The Angel Posting House & Livery

A beautiful old hotel full of charm and character, perfectly located in the heart of Guildford's historic town centre. From the façade to the impressive entrance staircase and spacious rooms, the hotel has a wonderful atmosphere, especially around Halloween! We stayed in a luxury suite, which was exceptionally spacious and comfortable. The bed was huge and very comfortable, and the bathroom was modern, spotless and generously sized, with both a bath and a shower. Very quiet room. The reception staff were very friendly, and the hotel offers incredible value for money. A perfect base for exploring Guildford's old town and enjoying walks in the surrounding countryside.

Nothing that affected our stay. The only small point is that our suite didn't have the four-poster bed shown in some of the booking photos. Our room was fantastic regardless, but it might be helpful to distinguish between suites with and without four-poster beds when booking, to avoid any confusion.

The location is brilliant as it’s in the centre of town. Comfortable rooms and very clean.

If you are a light sleeper ask for a room at the back as it’s very nosy at night if you in a room overlooking the high street

The room was really nicely decorated, and there were lots of useful things in the bathroom like shower gel and cotton wool pads etc.

Unfortunately the WiFi hardly worked to my room, which meant the tv didn’t work and on my last day I had to scramble to get out of the room so I could find somewhere with WiFi to work from before I drove home to the Netherlands. Part of that scramble was trying to have a shower, which I couldn’t as it didn’t work, it looked so new (electronic) when I was checking out the bathroom and I tried different ways of turning it on repeatedly with no luck. My room was very noisy as well as it was next to the passage between North St and the High St and there were people standing in the passage shouting and arguing until the early hours of the morning, and given the windows were very old they didn’t stop any noise from outside. I really wanted to like this hotel, but it was just a series of issues… I did tell the lady on reception and she asked me why I didn’t say that the shower wasn’t working… well I didn’t try it until I realised I was in a massive hurry to leave because the WiFi wasn’t working, so there was no time!

gorgeous old building - a real piece of history. Room was spacious. Mattress was very comfortable. Staff were helpful and friendly.

Bathroom and plumbing was old and tired - hot/cold water and water flow was very difficult. Bath was old and peeling paint on outside. Bedroom lighting was not good. TV did not even have mainstream channels and certainly no satellite or ability to cast. Our luxury suite had two giant front-facing bay windows. The room was super hot and we had two very small tower fans in there which did little to nothing. The High Street outside is super noisy at all hours - certainly from check-in until 11pm when pallets were onloading on the cobbles! A shop alarm at 5pm added to the tension! This meant it was hard to leave windows open (plus they are huge sash windows so take some effort) without being drowned out with noise, but with them shut the air was stifling inside. It was not a luxury stay at all. Rest of hotel is OK but tired. No facilities - just an original staircase/corridor and room.
