We chose this hotel to be close to the walking tracks in Tongariro national park: the tracks actually start at the edge of the property. Our room was small but practical and although the bed was only a double, it was comfortable. We appreciated having our own nice deck to relax on. The hotel definitely has an alpine backpacker feel, with a lot of younger travellers. However there were also more seasoned tourists filling the restaurant and relaxing on the main deck.
We enjoyed our tasty dinners in the lovely alpine styled dining room.
Just a heads up to other travellers, Like many such places, there is a strict check in time and bookings for the restaurant are highly recommended. Also, if you come in the off season, there are very few places to get food/ supplies.

Price is too high for the quality of room, bathroom is outdated, crack on the floor. Paid $271 for a queen room which is already high 4 stars accommodation

Nothing. It is a good value, salt of the earth place which gives you a warm welcome, great food and the best location. Nothing fancy, just hospitality done genuinely and well. Highly recommend!
