The place is great, the Laguna is beautiful.
Book this place to be able to swim in the laguna and chill at the laguna. Beautiful it is!

The location is a bit far from the city center by foot. Although taking a taxi cost about 50 pesos which is ok.
The description on booking didn't match what I got as a room. I booked a room with view on the Laguna. THEY DON'T HAVE ROOMS WITH A VIEW AT THE LAGUNA!! (See picture of booking which says specific "view on the lake/laguna"
I booked also this place, cause they said there was a restaurant. THERE IS NO RESTAURANT IN THE HOSTEL! There are some restaurants in the surroundings, some you have to pay to eat/sit at the laguna which is stupid if you have your hostel at the laguna... No fridge to stock some food or drinks....
There was no hot water In the shower (as they did mention it was there on booking). Not so bad beacause it's so hot outside. But also almost no water coming out of the shower! Washing long hair, not easy! The bathroom is so tiny that you could not stand there with 2 people inside. And feels very claustrophobic...

As I told them that a lot of things didn't match the description, I ask to pay the price of a normal room. (With no view, basic room) at the price the room was at that moment on booking. (There was a room free on booking still...) they called the responsable... (in very bad English we talked, he couldn't pass cause he was not in town...)
He said they don't do that, and they have no rooms left (??). He said to leave and book in some other place if we where not happy. I insisted that I wanted to stay, but it was a shame that he reacted like this (since this room was not what it said on booking ) on top of that, he didn't agree ,and wanted TO CALL THE POLICE ON US if we didn't pay the price! Also he said "IF YOU ARE FROM EUROPE, YOU CAN JUST PAY THE PRICE, CAUSE FOR YOU IT'S NOTHING!" Wauw!! Really? We saved a long time to be able to travel ..

To be honest, not a lot
We read the other comments about it being an old and worn down hotel but thought that it can’t be too bad for the price, but we’re sorry to say that it is not worth it for the price, not at all!
- it isn’t located where it is shown on booking! It’s about a 15 min walk down south the lagoon (so 30min walk to the city centre). Look it up on google maps
- staff was absolutely unmotivated and every question about a blanket or toilet paper (both was missing in the room!) was answered with hesitation
- the room was so worn down: saggy bed , balcony door not closing/opening or only with strong force, no safety box
- overall it was cleanish but linen and towels were stained
- there is a pier to the lagoon but you don’t have a full view of the lagoon because it’s blocked by a little island

Great location! So nice staying right on the lagoon.
The room was uncomfortable. It was super hot, no aircon. The sheets were dirty. The door was difficult to close. The shower was cold. I left my AirPods in the room, but stayed in Bacalar for 3 more days. The staff were contacted, but they never returned them. I understand it’s my fault for leaving them, but it’s disappointing that they are not trustworthy. They also owned me change for the room, but they never gave it back to me. Lazy and thoughtless staff!

The private access to the lagoon was the reason we booked this hotel and even this they can’t looked after properly.
When we checked in, they didn’t have our reservation because they don’t check booking.com. The room was ok but the bathroom was old, paint was missing, we had no water, had to asked for it to be turned on. They charged us for air con. The staff was extremely unhelpful when we mentioned our concerned. The hotel has a lot of potential but it’s outdated and not being looked after all. Definitely can find better accommodation in Bacalar.

There was no lock on the balcony door and no door handle on the bathroom door. They weren’t serving breakfast or even a cup of coffee. There was a power cut on the first night which meant the fan stopped working and it was incredibly hot. Sheets could do with replacing along with the towels

I loved the location, it was in the right place and it was wonderful. I liked the coziness of the rooms. The pier was beautiful and well maintained. I could access the Bacalar Lagoon at anytime and take amazing photos.
I did not like that not all the rooms had A/C, this was resolved quite easily and at the spot, but it was not made clear before hand. The power outlets were a little hard to find in my room.

The hotel has so much potential.
It's a beautiful little spot on the lagoon surrounded by jungle. The lagoon us gorgeous! The staff is wonderful. So friendly. So helpful. Anything we needed they helped and made happen.
The issue is there were bugs here and there in the room. They only give you a sheet to cover with. Water pressure is terrible! Takes 5-10 minutes running it to get warm. Also it's pitch black dark everywhere. We had to turn lights on behind the staff when we came back in the evenings. Literally not a single light on anywhere.
Bonus and good perks were air conditioning was fantastic.
They gave us extra pillows and blankets for comfort.

The main complaint is our friend who was a solo traveler staying at the hotel with us came screaming and banging on our door at 4:30 am because she woke up to a man standing over her and touching her while she slept. He broke in and God knows what he was planning? She screamed and he ran off. But this was very scary for all of us.
All that yo be said due to the issue of the man breaking in. We wouldn't stay here again. We 100% would have had that not happened.

We loved the access to the lagoon.
Unfortunatly the room was dirty. We found hair and old soapbars from former guests in the shower. Also there were stains on the bedsheets and on the curtains. The balconydoor was broken.

I loved the board walk docs out into the lake .
It's was nice and quiet, gave a tree house feel the way the rooms were set up. The room was large but needed fridge.Finally discovered the Michelada stand at the top of the hill our last day. They do have breakfast in the morning.
It was a little far from the town square.30 min walk 10 min bike ride. You should get a bike if you plan on staying here.
We often had water issues with no housekeeping. This place has the potential to be really enjoyable with a few tweaks.

Liked as one of the previous owners of the LAND that this rustice minimalistic hotelito is build on, it was nice to return to the area and see what has been created. The setting on the Laguna Bacalar and the long pier into the laguna are nice as are the gardens and the out door areas and the basic concept of the hotel.
I was given a ground floor room. The sliding terrace door DID NOT LOCK. NOTHING to keep the room safe. Outside was dark and was close enough that anyone could walk in from the pier /garden and take your stuff. When I mentioned this to the woman who was on reception her response was that they have lots of security cameras. I said in the room too? No
was her answer. Then when I asked about changing rooms to a more secure room on the second level I was told I would have to pay an extra fee. I was traveling for work so had my lap top and phones with me. Their lack of security required that I take my work supplies with me while I went to dinner. While the evening receptionist was pleasant, she was not really informed of where is the close places to eat ( they do not have onsite place for evening meal) I literally slept with my important possessions by my side and actually honestly did not sleep due to the noise of the ceiling fan and the hardness of the bed . It is a concrete bed base which is often found in Mexican hotels with a mattress. There was a sheet. No mattress protector or mattress pad. Very basic bedding, clean though. The curtain in the room was extremely light weight almost sheer so there was no real privacy offered .No charge port near the bed so phone had to be charged in bathroom port. This place with a few investments could be a deluxe hotel of grand quality but at the moment it is not one.

Almost everything!!! The room was filthy dirty !!! Our bed looked slept in !!! Other guest shampoo Sachet was open by the shower so clearly no cleaned at all . We arrived to no towels and one pillow . Check it was till 11 and we arrived at 11.10 and nobody was there and no one replied to any of my messages that I had sent hours before and just before arriving. Worst experience I have ever had in a hotel in my entire life !!!! Hated it and it’s totally ruined our time on Bacalar !!! Had to book another room in another hotel just to get over the horrible experience!!! And on top of all of that when we left they didn’t help with the bags and then mentioned a tip haha . Obviously that wasn’t going to happen . So we just got in a taxi and left !!!

This place has kayaks to hire and we loved the water access to the lagoon, The lagoon is what makes this place so special. apart from that it is pretty run down and the showers and toilets need maintenance.
The property was actually more expensive then it should have been, it’s very far from town, ok if you have a car and it has absolutely no security, the doors do not secure and when we asked about a locked door, they said that they didn’t have a room that had a secure lock, the staff don’t speak any English also which made it difficult for transactions.
They did however ensure us that the front desk is manned all night and that they have security cameras which really wouldn’t help if there was trouble, it’s most likely from other guests. which there was none, maybe one other couple that we saw.

Perfect contact with a host. One of the best location in Bacalar with direct access to the lagun. Early morning swim … priceless. Parking infront of the hotel. Posibility to rent kayak.

Our worst and yet most expensive stay through our 6 weeks in Mexico..
The location was 2 km further away from the location written in Booking.com (Check Google Maps). The room we had couldn't lock the terrace door, it had mould in the bathroom and was hardly cleaned before we came..
Worst of all the hotel charged us twice and don't want to refund our money.

We booked more expensive room with lake view which does not exist - we were informed at check in. The staff admitted that they shouldn’t have specifically advertised the room as lake view but said they would not refund us the money. We asked to stay a day less to mitigate for the lack of view to which the staff reassured us many times they would refund us the one night. We never got the refund and were informed few weeks later following enquiries that this property did not offer refunds. This is unacceptable and a theft.
The hotel is not actually located where it is marked on the map and is actually much further from the town centre, the staff admitted that they have been meaning to change that but they just can’t get around to it. This meant we were dropped at the wrong place by the taxi.
Furthermore the reception organised us transport to Belize city privately (named Cesar in case someone wants to avoid him at all cost) and when we get to the border the driver informed us he doesn’t want to go to Belize anymore and kept most of our money and left us on the border.
Terrible experience.

The location and the dock of the hotel are absolutely breathtaking. We spent most of our time down there. About a 25 min walk into the centre of Bacalar so liked the location being slightly out of the main buzz but not too far.
Some of the staff were incredible and super lovely and the others barely spoke and were not friendly. We had some issues with usign the kayaks there, it appears the kayaks are for free as they are laid out near the docks with no signage regarding payment for them and most places in bacalar include this in the room accomodation. No one mentioned anything to us about being charged and were then asked to pay 800 MXN each when we returned from using the kayaks. There is also no meditation room which it states on the hotel information which was a factor in us choosing this property
