Royal Son Bou Family Club

I would highly recommend Royal Son Bou to anyone looking to give their children a fantastic holiday. The facilities are excellent, as is the food and drink. The all-inclusive offering is genuinely very good quality, with surprisingly little excluded. We particularly enjoyed having a Pomada each day. The animación team are brilliant. There’s a show every evening at 8pm, followed by another at 9pm which is a little more adult-focused but still completely family friendly. Kikoland is excellent too, with activities, toys, soft play and plenty to keep younger children entertained. The heated splash pool is great, and the pirate ship slide was a particular favourite. Our room was cleaned every day, with the beds made and fresh towels provided. The staff throughout the hotel were genuinely warm and friendly, regularly interacting with our toddler and helping to make the whole experience feel quite magical for him. Personally, I’m not a fan of huge, characterless resort hotels, so Royal Son Bou really suited us. It feels much more like a traditional Spanish apartment complex, with low-rise buildings that are only a few storeys high, which gives the whole place a much more relaxed feel.

We did have an issue with the room we were allocated on arrival. There was no hot water from the thermostatic shower, and the hot water from the sinks and hand shower had a slight brown tint with some sand-like sediment in it. The maintenance team were excellent and came to investigate within around half an hour. From our conversation with the engineer, though, it became clear that it wasn’t going to be a quick fix. This was really the only point during our stay where the service felt a little below the otherwise excellent standard of the hotel. We had to push rather more than we expected to find a solution, and the responses from reception initially felt a little prickly and dismissive. That was very much out of character compared with the friendliness we experienced everywhere else. We were eventually moved to another room, which completely resolved the water issue. We were told it was of the same category, although it was noticeably smaller and a little more dated than our original room. That said, this was one issue in an otherwise excellent stay and it certainly hasn’t put us off. In fact, we’re already discussing coming back again next year.

We absolutely loved our experience at the hotel. Everyone is amazingly friendly. The whole place is immaculately clean. We couldn’t be happier to spend a few days with our young children there. A special thank you to our great waiter Pepe and the manager at the reception who kindly gave us an upgrade which made our stay even more comfortable and memorable.
