Classic federation beauty, not renovated to modernise. Old carpets and wainscoting, pressed ceilings and solid timbers. Old but cosy. Broad selection of tea, coffee and hot chocolate to enjoy in a warm sunroom. Bed looked like it might be a bit old and lumpy but was wonderfully comfortable. Friendly host Roger whom we had an enjoyable morning coffee with while gathering up his knowledge of the house and area.

Federation house is a wonderful base to explore the amazing town of Oamaru. It is certainly foolish if you don't spend a little more time in this part of New Zealand if you are returning from or returning to Christchurch. I will certainly stay here again.

Carpet was very old so floor was cold.
