Lovely old building
Heating was a problem, only came of for a few hours each day. Sometimes the room was very cold. Resturant was taking part in “Darlington Resturant Week” so menu was cheap and cheerful. 3 courses for £23 is not going to be the best they could do. Room nothing like photos on Booking.com

The hotel is lovely as you drive in - Looks every bit the castle. The reception area is lovely, the bar and the restaurant is all exposed brick and very cosy. Big fireplaces and really charming. Our room was huge with a sofa and a large seperate bedroom down a corridor. It was quiet and very dark for a good sleep.
We didnt like that when we checked in we were told no availability for dinner only 5:30pm. We were told it was Darlington Restaurant week and that an email should have been sent. Not to us. Once checked in I went to see if there was any way to squeeze us in - absolutely not and no room service either so absolutely no food being offered to us in any way shape or form! Incredibly disappointing for a hotel! Never expereinced this before. I spoke to a manager who simply said he could arrange us a taxi into Darlington! We had a drink in the bar and someone on staff took pity on us and asked if we had found how to be fed yet! He then managed to squeeze us in at 6:45pm and said they had a busy lunch service and were short staffed. The bar ws littered with coffee ups and glasses but there seemed to be plenty of staff to us. We went for dinner - a number of spare tables at 6:45pm and again when w left at 8pm. 4 couples including us were sat in tables for 4 so it wasnt anywhere near capacity. Perhaps the chefs were just tired. But it was no way full and for someone not to have even offered to make us a sandwich earlier when we were told it was full was pretty poor service all rund. Anyway we felt like waht was a leftover sunday lunch as an evening meal with roast potatoies like bullet and old cripsy yorkshire puds. All very average. Our room was huge but the living area as tired, the sofa uncofy with old cushions and a chari with a huge spring stuck up. Plain cream walls with mismatched furniture and a bath panel cracked and sticking out. All very underwhelming. No phone in the room eith a sign saying pop down or whatsapp us if yu need us - delightful for elderly people I'm sure.
