Great place! We needed a place to stay for one night and it was everything we ever needed. Clean, tidy and close to the location needed. If we ever come back to Darlington, definitely coming back here.

Big airy characterful Victorian room and wide comfortable bed. Very quiet despite being on a main road, and cool on a hot day because of the high ceiling. Wonderful breakfast, a mixture of buffet starters with hot food cooked to order, and lots of it if needed - a full English or whatever parts of it you want. And a relaxing room to eat, as the positioning of the window gives the impression of a very rural setting despite being an easy 5-minute walk to the town centre and even closer to the hospital. Andrew the host was very friendly and helpful - as was his little girl.
Because some of the ornate ceiling frieze was missing and patched up, it detracted from the look and feel of the room.
But we chose it for character despite being offered a modern one in an annexe. Some of our room's fittings felt a little dated, but all very clean and in good working order.

Everything Andrew did for us was exceptional from driving us to the station, cooking a gorgeous breakfast and making sure we had everything required after our long journey. The room was dated but extremely clean and comfortable and credit to the lady that helps him.
The fact we couldn't stay longer.

The people that own the place were lovely, and the complimentary breakfast was amazing
The room was very basic with a lot of evidence of leaks, peeling paper, the mattress was very old and the bed had no headboard
