The majority of the staff were very well-mannered and helpful when you managed to talk to them. Housekeeping was prompt whenever we needed something, and the front desk was very helpful too. Especially helpful was the concierge/travel person (I can't recall his name) — we needed information quite late in the day about trips, and despite the hour, he spent plenty of time taking us through options, even after we made it clear we probably wouldn't be taking the trip. The location is pretty fantastic, especially if you manage to get a room or suite with a mountainside view. Being in the midst of nature, you do have to put up with monkeys, who can be very troublesome if you're trying to enjoy the balcony — but that's not something that directly reflects on the property. As far as location goes, it's really good. The overall look and feel is a positive too. The general vibe is pretty, and the traditional Kerala and South Indian decor near the front desk and en route to the rooms adds to its elegance. Oh, and the internet works well - which is something given the location; it was especially useful for us (with a kid) because the TV channels all came up with 'please subscribe'. So we managed to cast using the wifi - so that's a plus.
Rooms: I can only judge this on the two rooms we booked. They were definitely spacious, but a lot of the furnishings felt quite dated — the rugs, the couch, the bed headboards, and many of the bathroom fittings. We also discovered a leak at one of the washbasin taps, seeping into the floor underneath. The bathroom in our room had sliding glass doors, with some of the decoration already peeling off, meaning there was little point to the door since you could see straight through it. Overall, the cleanliness and upkeep of the rooms could be improved, especially given the cost. The restaurant and food were a big letdown. Everything felt disorganised from the moment we went down for tea and coffee — it took over 40 minutes to arrive, and when we queried this, staff said 20–30 minutes was standard for any order. I understand some delay if food is involved, but this was just tea and coffee for a party of five. When it did arrive, it wasn't enough for the five of us. To make matters worse, my parents had a bout of food poisoning the day after the dinner buffet. Breakfast was definitely better, but again disorganised, with hardly any seating and long queues at the live counter. I appreciate it may have been a busy weekend, but managing that queue is meant to be the resort's problem, not the guests'. Lifts: there was just one lift on the side where our rooms were accessible, and it could hardly fit four or five people. With guests constantly checking in and out with luggage, everyone was always waiting for the lift. Some of the more able-bodied guests took the stairs, but many older or mobility-restricted guests, including my parents, waited up to ten minutes just to get from one floor to another.
