This is a 1970s grande dame built with no expense spared at the time and not greatly modernised since. I loved the soc-mod architecture and the old-fashioned vibe, but it won't be for everyone. Time in many ways has stood still here, leaving the Belvedere as one of the vanishingly few places where you can still experience what it was like to be one of the Romanian elite circa 1985. You will either like this or you will not. The view, however, is sensational - easily the best in Cluj; my room was spotless; the swimming pool is genuinely impressive; and all the interactions with the staff were great. The Belvedere is, objectively, not the most swish hotel in town - but it is certainly the most interesting. I am already looking forward to coming back.
Air con seemed past its best and didn't do much to cool the room down.

The room and the hotel furniture are in a vintage style like the 1950s,
· The room needs a thorough cleaning, replacing the carpets from wall to wall, servicing the air conditioner in the room, which produces very weak air. Our room was not made up the day after our stay at the hotel. According to the clerk, there was probably a note on the door handle saying "Please do not disturb." No note of any kind was available, so there is no basis for this claim. The towels were not replaced, and the trash was not taken out. The hotel representative saw this and confirmed it. The dining room staff is very pleasant and courteous. There is ample parking in front of the hotel and it is free. The smell in the rooms from the carpet spoils the enjoyment. Make sure that the towels provided are free of odors from the washing and drying machines.
