Equirelais is a beautiful and distinctive property, combining modern architecture with an elegant old-fashioned, equestrian-inspired design. The property has a very pleasant atmosphere, with a lovely garden and beautiful views of Lake Varese and the surrounding mountains. The rooms are spacious and the overall setting is quiet, well maintained and relaxing.
The location was excellent for us. It is very close to Lake Varese and Varese, with easy access to the surrounding countryside and mountains, while being only around 35–40 minutes from Malpensa Airport. This was one of the main reasons we chose Equirelais, and it worked perfectly for the final part of our trip.
Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable overall, and breakfast was good and included in the price. The selection was fairly simple, but we had enough vegetarian options. The staff member we met during breakfast was also very kind and friendly.
The main difference compared with what we expected was the level of personal hospitality. We received clear instructions for our arrival, but there was no one there to welcome us, and we had relatively little interaction with the hosts during our stay. This gave the experience a more independent and private feel, which some guests may actually prefer, although we personally would have appreciated a little more personal contact.
Our balcony faced the parking area and entrance, so unfortunately it didn't offer much privacy and we didn't really make use of it. A room facing the lake or the back of the property would probably have been a better choice for us.
There were also a few smaller comfort details that could be improved. The mattress wasn't quite as comfortable as we had hoped, the air conditioning took some time to cool the room effectively because of its position, and the shower water pressure could have been stronger. Breakfast was good, although somewhat basic compared with the overall quality and presentation of the property.
Overall, we had a very pleasant stay. The beautiful property, peaceful surroundings and especially the excellent location make Equirelais a good choice for exploring the Lake Varese area and for its convenient proximity to Malpensa Airport.
