This would have been a perfect break for us in a lovely place, but for the dog attack.
This is the place to go if you want a great dog friendly beach or a coastal walk it's quiet location close to Staithes Sandsend ,Whitby Park & ride a good option if visiting Whitby and only £5.50 for family return ticket. It has a lovely fish & chip shop and Kaskane a great place to go for a meal that won't break the bank. The accommodation was spacious and clean just lacking hand soap & washing up liquid. The host did say to call if any problems but there is an Asda, B&M Gregs & McDonalds a short car drive away so no problem as we always pick bits up when away. The TV was easy to work which is good when travelling with kids, key would have baffled me but as met by the host we were shown how to enter (easy when you know how). We were met by the host who was very helpful and friendly we had plenty space to park. We really love this place and would love go back here on a regular basis but for the below concern.
We had a terrifying encounter with a very nasty out of control dog (I believe it was a Belgian shepherd so not a small dog). We had come back from a lovely walk on the very long beach and when approaching the accommodation this dog came running at us bearing it's teeth. My 8yr old was terrified and had been holding the dog minutes before this so dread to think what could have happened. Luckily there was a car parked on the roadside so we managed to shield our small friendly cocker spaniel against the car. I do believe this dog was after our dog but there was a point when it snapped at my daughters arm and I really thought it was going to bite her. What made it worse was the woman with the dog made no attempt to come and grab it but only called it in a soft voice. We were screaming at her to grab the dog, she almost appeared scarred of this dog and clearly had no control. This dog should have had a muzzle and I am only thankful that none of us was injured. When we were in the flat we could see the woman sat in her orange van stroking the dog as if it had done nothing wrong, I grandson wouldn't leave the flat until they had left. This spoilt what would have been a fantastic weekend break that we would have definitely returned again & again. Such a shame this happened as this place was perfect in every way for what we needed.

Unclean and lack of basic equipment
Apartments are in an ideal location for walking to the beach in Skinningrove.
The size of the apartment was of decent size.
I was one of two families who stayed in these apartments 17th-21st August 2026. We were in number 7, and my mum and some of my other family stayed in the other apartment at number 3.
We were really looking forward to our holiday, especially as we stayed in number 3 five years ago. Our now‑older children were excited to come back and enjoy Skinningrove and the surrounding areas again.
When we realised we were in the exact same apartment as last time, we were really pleased — but upon looking around it quickly became clear that nothing had been updated or improved since our previous visit.
Although the apartment was relatively tidy, it was missing a thorough deep clean and several basic facilities that should be standard.
We had just two towels between a family of four for a five‑day stay. One black towel, and one white. They didn't feel particularly clean or fresh.
Very little toilet roll was left on the holder, almost no hand wash in the bathroom, and barely any washing‑up liquid in the kitchen.
The grill tray was left unwashed and was full of fat from previous guests — I’ll attach a photo.
The kitchen cupboard draws were not clean and had bits of food inside, one cupboard door was broken and hanging off.
Kitchen utensils were extremely limited; one small frying pan makes it difficult to cook a meal for a family of four.
The bed sheets didn’t appear clean, and when I lifted one to straighten it, the mattress underneath was heavily stained.
The shower head leaks badly, spraying water in all directions when removed from the holder.
The sofa is very worn, and the springs have gone in several places.
Normally, I come home from a holiday and recommend our accommodation to friends and family. We stayed in a cottage directly opposite these apartments two years ago and it was a vast improvement to these ones. Unfortunately, I don’t feel I could recommend these apartments based on my recent visit.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS – DISGUSTING CONDITIONS AND A TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE
I would strongly warn other guests to think twice before booking this property. The condition we found it in was absolutely appalling and completely unacceptable for paying guests.
The bed sheets had stains and human hair on them and appeared not to have been properly changed. There were large clumps of animal hair across the carpets and sofa, dust all over the furniture, a filthy fridge with food residue and grease, dried food still stuck to cutlery and kitchen utensils that had been put back into the cupboards, a disgusting greasy oven tray and a dirty, rusted toaster.
There were also damaged items throughout the apartment. The glass dining table had an insecure/detached top, which was particularly alarming because we were travelling with a young child.
We reported these problems immediately. The host visited and offered us 50% compensation for the first night because of the condition of the property. However, after checkout, when we asked for the promised refund, the host referred to damage to a kitchen cabinet that we completely dispute causing and had already brought to his attention during the stay. We were then told he would “think about” the compensation.
We have photographic evidence showing the condition in which we found the apartment.
For us, this was an absolutely unacceptable standard of hygiene and one of our worst accommodation experiences. We would never return. Based on our experience, I strongly recommend avoiding this property.

Great location and comfortable.
Location was fabulous - close to the beach, sea and Cleveland Way. Beds were comfortable. Kitchen reasonably well equipped. TV worked as did the wifi.
We had to wash the plates, dishes and glasses before we could use them. All were greasy and looked unclean. One of the glasses still had lipstick on it.

Good location, plenty of space and modern. Overall the apartment was in good condition and pretty clean. Private and off road parking was really good. It has been a good property to stay in overall and we would stay again.
A few things let it down: the internet was not working flashing red light on the router, no curtains over the blinds so it was difficult to sleep from around 5.30am onwards, there was only a small bit of hand soap and toilet paper available and no bin bag in the bin which when you arrive on a bank holiday can be hard to find a place to buy more, some furniture was damaged, some areas such as in the bathroom next to the toilet didn't look clean. Overall happy with the service.

The location as we have stayed in skinning grove before, had parking, plenty of space.
WiFi was a lot of hassle, but was sorted after lots of messaging to the owner.
Only one towel and half a loo roll on arrival, but again contacted the owner and more was brought. I used the oven to then realise there was no glove so had to use the towel.
We took our dog & was asked to have him on a lead at all times he’s a small French bulldog
On 1 occasion when I took my dog for a walk there was a dog lose i believe this to be the owners of the property which became aggressive & scared me & partner grandson the owner of the property ask me to go back in until the dog was taken inside & under control iI don’t think this is acceptable it unsettled both of us when going for further walks.
