Exceptional

The room was clean, comfortable, and nicely decorated. I could charge the beach umbrella rental to the hotel, so I didn’t have to take money to the beach. The restaurant directly down at the beach was excellent. I liked that my room had a clothes line out the window for drying items.

A place where you feel like at home

The kindness of the people; the location: the hotel is next to the sea but also close to the center and to a lovely park; the value for money; the breakfast on the terrace. This is a place where you really feel like at home.

Covid or not touching someones food with bare hands is unacceptable

Very nice hotel, clean and great location.

This poor review is based on one very important event which took place the morning of September 29, 2021 at Hotel Ausonia. After witnessing on more than one occasion the staff member (an elderly man) who was “the operator” repeatedly touching our food with his bare hands. When i approached him to inform him that i saw him pick up fallen food from the counter and place it back in on our plate he said he was allowed by “italian law” without using gloves or tongs. I then said it’s unsanitary and against health regulations he then proceeded to rub his bare hands on our plates and swore in Italian at us. Never have I ever been treated so poorly at any hotel in all my travels. Despite the young man at the front desk apologizing, “the operator”never once apologized for his outburst towards us at all. Totally unacceptable behaviour which completely voided anything positives I could say about this hotel. Regardless of covid nobody should touch a customers food with their bare hands. I can only hope that management takes the proper steps so this never happens again.... but i highly doubt it.

Superb

Very good breakfast. Not only croissants but also eggs. Juice is tasty, without added water :) Nice garden. Friendly personnel.

Unpleasant smell from the pipes in the bathroom. Hotel has private beach, but there is an additional cost 10 eur for sunbed. It could be included directly to the room price.

Good staff, good location makes for a good stay

Great location in a nice beach town. Close to the shore and the shops. Good restaurants are close by.

Very good

Nice hotel, great location in the middle of Follonica. Single room is small but you have everything that you need, very clean and good mattress. For breakfast you have plenty of choices and overall service (reception, night porter, catering, cleaners etc) very friendly and professional. There is no private parking, so if you come by car, it may be a bit challenging to find a spot nearby. Best option is the free parking at the station, just 10 min walk.

Fabulous

The hotel was located very close to the beach, restaurants and the train station. The staff was very kind and helpful. I liked the breakfast, which was served at a beautiful terrace / garden.

It was really hot at night and since my room overlooked the street, it was too noisy to leave the windows open.

A very enjoyable October getaway

Basic hotel, but very clean and quiet. The location was just perfect. Close to the beach and to the town center. I walked everywhere, including the train station. I used Follonica as a base for day trips in this area. My favorite was Massa Marittima, a charming medieval town easily reached by bus. The bus terminal in Follonica is in front of the train station. I felt safe in Follonica and, as a female solo traveler, this is very important. I recommend Hotel Ausonia and this part of Tuscany.

I don't really have anything negative to say about this hotel. If I have to be picky, I'd say that the safety box in the room should work with a code rather than a key.
