This is the most beautiful spot on the river and you can swim directly from the hotel’s deck. The garden is lush and beautifully planted and maintained and gives cool respite from the heat. The owners are welcoming and kind and the breakfasts wonderful: plenty of fresh herbs, salad, olives, cheese and fruit and addictive puffy doughnut-like pastries with jam. This is not a swanky place and the bedrooms are small and could do with a bit of an update but it’s very clean and we felt such a sense of ease here. It was a joy to come back to after long days out.
