The most comfortable bed we have ever slept in in any hotel. Very high-quality breakfast, lovely part of the world to stay in.
Quite difficult to find the way into the building later at night and uncertain where to park. Unable to get the overhead shower to a hot temperature but unsure if the hotel we were even aware that this was broken so we just advised them as we were leaving. Other shower connected to the bathroom worked well. Obviously a lovely hotel but perhaps more than we would’ve normally spent just to put our head down after a concert.

We were warmly welcomed by Ian, and were made to feel very welcome with our dog. We were able to eat with our dog at the 'Strawberry Fields' restaurant in the covered patio area which was very comfortable. The food was excellent and service equally excellent. Breakfast was served to us in the 'conservatory' area where the staff made a table up for us and the dog was allowed to be with us as well. Room was very comfortable and we appreciated the door which led out onto a semi private garden. We did not need to leave our dog in the room at all, which is what we had expected we would need to do based on the info on booking.com. On contacting the hotel in advance they assured us we would be able to be located an area to have the dog with us when eating. I had not appreciated the history of the property, which is fascinating. Also the grounds are extensive, and outstanding, which was a treat in itself to be able to walk around the grounds, which was like walking back in time, and exploring a secret garden. The bar offers a wide selection on single malt whiskey, and for a non whisky drinker, they are of high quality as I went in for more than one! :)
It would have been really nice to take the dog inside the Strawberry Fields Restaurant, which in the winter months would be necessary to escape the coldness of eating outside. However we had a lovely stay here and would definitely stay again.

Location and layout of the old part of the house. Lovely decor. Comfortable bedrooms. The staff are all very pleasant but a bit thin on the ground.
The Bistro is nice new idea for summer months but I cant see guests wanting to go out in the rain and snow just to have dinner. It’s a little cramped and not nearly as comfortable as the internal dining room where breakfast is held. Certainly for winter , that would seem a much better choice for dinner too.
