About this cottage rental
Located in Kitty Hawk, this charming cottage for $340 per night is a fantastic option for your next trip. Just a short walk across the street and you're on the beach! Enjoy beach views from the enclosed porch, bedroom and upper deck as well as great sunset views from the upper and lower deck. Perfect Outer Banks get away for your family to enjoy all that the beach offers. Home is located on North Virginia Dare Trail in Kitty Hawk at the 2.5 mile marker post. You'll be able to enjoy the view from the large screened-in porch with a swing to relax or the large sundeck to catch some rays! Also, large deck under the house to relax out of the sun, play darts or just hangout and enjoy a cool beverage. Mini frigerator in laundry room. Nice split floor plan with 2 front bedrooms with queen size beds which open directly onto the screened-in porch. The two bedrooms upfront share a bath and the 2 BRs (1 queen bed and one twin over double bed) in back share the other bath. The central living area has plenty of seating for everyone to be together comfortably watching TV or playing games. Each bedroom has its own TV with 2 with cable and two with Roku and DVD players. Also has internet access and WII video games, books and DVD's. This location offers close proximity to 2 fishing piers, a short drive to Corolla to see the wild horses or to Oregon Inlet for a deep sea fishing trip. You're within walking distance of restaurants, a grocery store and pharmacy. The cottage is dog-friendly up to two 50 lb dogs only. Pet fee is $125. No other pets allowed. Your memorable family vacation is just a few clicks away. Due to additional cleaning measures additional time may be needed to clean the property between guests depending on check-in day and when last guest checked out, etc. Check-in time is 4:00 PM. If home is ready earlier you will be notified. Our cleaning person will contact us to let us know when the house is ready for your stay. I will then send you a message to include the lockbox pass. Please note, our check-out time (10:00 a.m.) is firm because our fantastic cleaning lady needs time to ready the house for our next guests. NOTE: All carpet has been replaced with LVP flooring December 2023. Photos will be updated as soon as possible. Comforters, pillows and blankets provided. Guests to provide their own towels, linens washcloths, shampoo, paper towels, toilet paper, etc. as well as other consumable items. There may be some items at the home to get you started when you first arrive. There is a linen service close by if you choose to rent these items instead. Moneysworth -1-800-833-5233. They are located in Kitty Hawk. Some other items that are provided include vacuums, hairdryers, x-large dog crate, medium dog crate, fans, beach chairs, tons of beach toys and a couple of beach carts. Location was great as beach access is close by. Fenced back yard was excellent for our fur babies. The beach toys, chairs, umbrellas and beach carts were very handy and allowed us to not have to pack as much which was fantastic. Highly recommend!!

We just finished up our fourth straight year at Shifting Tides and each year just keeps getting better and better. The addition of the Tiki bar and extension of the deck on the lower level reminded me of our own Tiki bar set up at home.
I mean, I could go on and on about how superb the place is, as well as how awesome it is to deal with Christine and Paul. But I think the best compliment that I can give is you know you’re in a great spot when everything feels very familiar. I love saying “hello” to Mr. Shark when we bring our stuff in, and I give him a fist bump when the week is done and it’s time to go home.
Shifting Tides is a gem. See you next year!

We just stayed at the property for a week and have nothing but good things to say about the property! The owners were very kind and easy to work with, house was clean with a good setup for kids and dogs. Highly recommend! Also really loved the quietness of Kitty Hawk.

We stayed at this property for 3 nights, and we loved it. The pictures don’t do it justice. The outside tiki bar area, living room, screened in porch, and sizable yard are great areas to hang out with plenty to do. A short walk across the street puts you right on the beach. The owners were responsive and accommodating, ensuring we had everything that we needed. I would absolutely stay here again.

This house was exactly what we were looking for for our OBX family vacation! Right from the start Christine was helpful, quick to respond, and easy to communicate with. The house itself is perfect – cozy, clean, great layout for two families, and the location couldn’t be more convenient to the beach. We loved the multiple outdoor spaces and the fully stocked beach gear closet was super helpful: plenty of chairs, sand toys, coolers, boogie boards, and two carts to lug it all to the beach. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook multiple dinners for eight, and the beds were all very comfortable. Our dog loved the fenced in backyard as well. I could go on! We loved Shifting Tides, and can’t wait to book again!

Very comfortable beach cottage. The photos do not do it justice. Great place for family to gather. We would love to come again. The Spectrum wifi was not working, do to no fault of the host. Spectrum could not send a tech for repairs until after we left so the hosts made arrangements with a neighbor to use their wifi.

We enjoyed our stay here very much! Very dog friendly and has that unique “at home” feel that many rentals do not have. Just a short walk to the beach and you can see the ocean from your bed when you wake up in the mornings! I hope our grandchildren remember it for many years to come!

Was like being at home . Provided everything you could possibly need for a beach vacation. When it rained, we had board games and a wii provided by the host. Would definitely recommend. Beach access was walking distance.

Everything about this place was exactly as advertised. Great set up for people who bring dogs, as the entire yard, including finished area beneath the house, is enclosed. Public access to the beach is just 100 yards away. On the north end of the island, so not as built-up and “touristy” as Nags Head. The only drawback is that it is across the road from the beach, but that is fully disclosed before booking. Overall, a great rental!

We were looking for a quick getaway with our doggies for Thanksgiving holiday and this was the perfect place! So close to the beach and property is so well thought out for dogs and that just added to our peace of mind! Would recommend as well as return!

My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our long weekend at this property! We brought our adult children, infant granddaughter (her first vacation and visit to the ocean) and a dog with us for our first stay in this home. We have enjoyed many visits to OBX in the past, this house met our growing family's needs and exceeded our expectations. Enjoyed the screen porch and upper deck views. Communication with owner was excellent. We were traveling from far away and our GPS wasn't working properly ( updated Garmin recommended!!!) The owner and her son helped us out every step of the way, promptly answered calls and texts as needed.
The property is extremely dog friendly and you can secure all of the gates so that your dogs can go down into a huge fully fenced backyard directly from the house without you worrying about them running out to the street. Well thought out!
We enjoyed the screened in porch which faces the partial water view. You can even see boats going by and it was a pleasure to see the blue water!
It was also fun to go up to the top deck! Our smaller dog I kept on a leash because she was curious about climbing up onto the roof from the top deck!
One thing I'd like to see owners of properties in this location do is install a whole house water filter. We stayed in another rental nearby and they had the same issue with the water that comes up from the tap. I'm guessing it's loaded with chlorine and other things. Very strong smell and not recommended for drinking. Please bring filtered water or a water filter or both! Also bathing in this water or washing your hair in it leaves a kind of tackiness. I tried using a conditioner, but still couldn't get that tackiness as completely out of my hair.
The location of the property is very convenient for other towns along route 12. Duck isn't very far away and neither is Corolla. It's also close to shopping and restaurants.
The beach is uncrowded which is also a nice aspect to this location. The road is busy but not impossible to cross.

This was the best beach house we have rented yet. We had everything we needed. Corn hole in the fenced in backyard, beach chairs, umbrella, and so much more. Easy access to the beach, and the screened in porch was our favorite. The kitchen had all the essentials for making a good meal. Everyone slept well in comfy beds. I highly recommend this house for friends and family.

All Around Great Place to Stay in Kitty Hawk!
This was our third year at this house, and again, our stay was great! We are coming back again next year. We had a small issue with tv and internet, which was absolutely out of the owners' control, yet they worked very hard to get the company out to fix it, and they took care of the situation in a timely and friendly manner! The house is clean and has everything we need, and is a quick walk to a beautiful stretch of beach! We definitely recommend!

Perfect for us
As newcomers to the Outer Banks, we lucked out! The home was warm and welcoming. The exterior photo doesn't do it justice. The beach was super easy to access. The beach is gorgeous, broad and sandy, and the lifeguard is stationed a short walk away if you are going in. The sea was too choppy this week for swimming but we had a blast just wading in the waves. We went to the beach several times a day. We had meals on the screened in porch, and sat on the roof deck in the evenings with a bottle of wine to enjoy the sound of the waves. It was a great location. I was pleasantly surprised at the availability of Asian and South Asian restaurants, as we are mostly vegetarian. If you are keen on barbecue and burgers, they also abound. Plenty of good seafood. The street traffic was busy during the day but it did not negatively impact our stay. The backyard was nice when needed for the dogs, and they loved the beach. I heartily recommend the rental; and Paul and Christine were wonderfully quickly responsive to any little question we had about the area. It's great!
