The City

Located right in the centre of the city, it is a great spot to stay when visiting students at the university. The rooms are clean and serviceable. My daughter and I stayed in a twin which was clean and tidy with a great shower. The building and rooms have a quirky layout which adds to the charm. This is our second stay at the City and it is great value for money - less than £70pn for our midweek booking.

Previously I stayed in the double room above the bar, which can be a bit noisy if they have live music on.

Hadn't rrealised it was a pub with six rooms but in fact they were at the back of the property and there was little noise. The staff were friendly and charming and I would likely use it again for future trips to Durham

The bathroom was very cramped and needed a bit of contortion to use the loo ! But all clean/new and lots of hot water

It was in a very good location and reasonably priced. We were only there for the one night but it had everything that we needed.

When we got to our room we were a bit worried about the earplugs that were provided! However , although noisy at the beginning of the evening it quietened down later although it was only a Monday night… the weekend may be different!!

It was a great location close by to everything in Durham

Leaving the hotel in the morning and not having anyone communicate where to leave the key the night before to myself and my daughter (as a witness)Another guest told us that there was no where to leave it as we were obstructing the way out at the entrance we had no other choice but to leave for the day’s appointments. Unfortunately I was on the motorway 12 miles and I remembered the key. If there is apparently a box to leave it inside then this needs to be firstly communicated and maybe a contact number for any queries would be a good idea so that any future guests do not have to have such a torturous trip returning the key. I have stayed at lots of other hotels in Durham and always enjoyed my stays visiting.
