Hot tub, parking, right in the heart of town, with a free shuttle to the mountain just down the street. Come discover why this charming refurbished mining cabin in the heart of town is one of Crested Butte’s most popular vacation rentals. When it comes to mountain biking in Crested Butte, the 401 Trail simply tops them all - a world-renowned trail that has got something for everyone, and always delivers an unforgettable experience - which is why we call this remarkable property the 401 House, a true Crested Butte gem where great memories are waiting to be made! Originally built in the 1890’s, this restored historic cabin feels like it is in a world of it’s own, even though it’s conveniently located in the heart of Downtown Crested Butte. A private fenced yard hides the hot tub and gas grill area, as well plenty of room to pull up a chair and unwind. The 401 House is one block from the Mountain Express bus stop, one block from the Nordic Center, and 2 blocks from the shops and restaurants on Elk Avenue- just pull into your own off-street parking, then wave your car goodbye and focus on the finer things in life! A spacious and well-equipped kitchen opens into a lovely dining area, then a cozy family room, complete with gas fireplace, smart TV, family-style games, and room to lounge, or even sleep in the oversized-Queen Sleeper Sofa. Radiant in-floor heat throughout means every room is toasty. Each bedroom boasts a king size bed, a high ceiling with fan, great light, and it’s own deck. Amenities galore. Whether you need the perfect nest to refuel between your big mountain adventures, or a peaceful place to connect with those who matter most, the 401 House awaits. We are always happy and willing to assist with ski and bike rentals and to share our local knowledge. *While we try to keep our calendars updated, it is possible that new reservations have not yet been added to the VRBO calendar. Please click the "Contact Manager" button to inquire with the office for the most accurate availability. ****Disclosures **No pets **Guests will be required to sign a guest rental agreement prior to receiving check-in and driving directions. ** Parking for 2 vehicles available in a private driveway. **** No pets. ***** Early check ins and or late check out requests may be granted on a per booking basis and may be subject to additional fees at the time of booking. Last minute requests cannot be granted due to pre established cleaning and maintenance schedules. Guests who occupy any part of the property including the driveway prematurely without preauthorization from the home owner or property manager will be subject to a $ 250 fine. Guests will also be asked to vacate the property and return at check in time. Guests who check out after 10am without preauthorization will be asked to vacate immediately and will be subject to a $ 250 fine. ****Crested Butte is a resort town, please note that when the Crested Butte Mountain Resort shuts down for the Spring shoulder Season, and again in the Fall, many of the shops, restaurants, and local businesses close down or operate under limited schedules. Refunds will not be granted to guests due to closure of any businesses in Crested Butte for any reason, as these events are out of our control. My wife and 2 daughters rented this house to ski Crested Butte Xmas through New Years. The house itself if great - big living room area, big kitchen, 2 master bedrooms essentially, very comfortable for group of 4. Would be great for 2 couples as well.
Besides the house, the location doesn't get any better - 2 blocks from everything - restaurants, bars, shops, grocery store, dispensary, you name it. Also the city's bus system which is highly convenient that takes you up the mountain to ski picks you up pretty much at the front door.
We will definitely stay here again.

Great location just a short walk from Elk street. It was hot when we checked in but aired out and was fine the rest of the stay. Clean, good communication with property manager and overall a great experience. Would stay again.

This trip included me and my husband and our 18 year old son and his friend. The property is conveniently located about 2 blocks from the main street (Elk Avenue) where all of the restaurants and shops are. Even though it's close to all the action, it is amazingly quiet on the street where it's located. The house is very well maintained outside and in with an open floor plan upon entering, nice comfy furniture, a well equipped kitchen, modern appliances and all that you need if you like to stay in and cook a meal. Beds are super comfy too and my husband and I really loved the steam shower in the master bath. There is also plenty of outdoor space and seating as well. We did not get a chance to use it much because of all of the snow, but we did love and use the outdoor hot tub, which was perfect after a full day skiing. We would highly reccommend this property and would stay there again!

We come to CB annually for biking, hiking, and cool weather. Our accommodations were perfectly located. The kitchen was well stocked for your cooking needs. The town provides other options that are great.

Cozy in town getaway!

Exceptionally clean home, perfectly lay out wonderful bathrooms ground level access with a quaint backyard walking distance to town coffee shops and everything you need easy access to trails from the house perfect in every way. One negative is that there’s no AC, which is fine, except for exceptionally hot spring in Colorado and the skylights in kitchen make a greenhouse effect so almost intolerable in 80’s inside with all
Windows open, it wasn’t until halfway through the week we learned we could actually open the skylights, Sean bought us a window box fan which made all the difference in the world! Thank you ! Really an exceptional home for an exceptional city for an exceptional vacation, we will return

Beautiful home. Great Location
Fully equipped kitchen and wonderful hot tub. We did miss having a fireplace at night. The gas stove is actually a back up heating unit and we were unable to use it for ambiance in the evening. There is a Smart TV but was no cable service. Overall, it was great home. The Manager was very responsive to our questions and issues. Bus is a block away and Elk Street is two blocks away.

Extremely convenient location, shuttle to mountain actually will stop right at the corner 3 min before the stop time down the street - a quicker way to grab a ride. Very quick walk to all shopping. Hot tub and steam shower two big bonuses here. Would stay again for sure!

The 401 house has a great location to walk into town within minutes. The home has everything you need. The beds were very comfortable. The fireplace warmed up the house every morning and evenings after our hikes. The kitchen has everything you need and well stocked with some basic necessities.
We have been visiting CB for over 23 years. This was our first fall trip. The Aspen and fall colors were amazing. There are some amazing hikes and enjoyed time up at Taylor reservoir fly fishing. We are planning out return trip already.

The management company dropped the ball on delivering linens that fit the sofa bed and we had no sheets on that bed for 2 of the 3 nights we were there. And for a couple hundred dollars, they could put a fold away crib in a closet and make life a lot easier for parents traveling with infants.

Exactly as advertised
Sometimes you get to those places and you realize how they made the pictures look like THAT, but that’s not really what you’re getting. That is not the case here. This place is perfect. Exactly like the listing shows, well stocked, great location and the private hot tub is just icing on the cake.

Perfect Getaway
From check in to check out the process was seamless. The house is beautiful and absolutely spectacular! On top of that it is in the perfect location; a short walk to everything. The house is very luxurious which makes it seem as a private mini resort. We definitely didn’t want to leave and return to reality in Denver.

Beautiful honeymoon!
Sean & the Watchdog team were amazing hosts. The home was very clean and so inviting. We traveled to Crested Butte for our honeymoon and our host had a sweet congratulations card and bottle of champagne waiting for us when we arrived. The home is a short walk from the main road with all of the restaurants and shops. Though some of the places were closed due to covid, we still had a great time. Dinner at Elk Prime was the perfect way to kick off our marriage. We really enjoyed the location of this home! The private hot tub was a MAJOR hit, especially after skiing. The master bathtub was also spacious and had a jacuzzi. I have zero complaints. Everything was just as pictured and better!
