About this house rental

Summary:

Soak, stargaze and relax. Our magical dome house on 2.5 acres in the Mojave was created as respite for creativity and inspiration. BBQ, swing in the hammocks, spin a record, pull a book from our library or just sit back in the cowboy tub and watch the sun set. Located 5 min from the legendary Integratron (soundbath anyone?), our dome is also just a quick 20 minute drive to all the high desert has to offer, from the nightlife of Pioneertown to the enchanting expanse of Joshua Tree National Park.

The Space:

The Abracadabra Dome is a classic geodesic dome home, built in 1981 and lovingly reimagined as a modern creative retreat by its artists owners. A writer and musician, we poured our hearts into the creation of an inspiring space for creativity and relaxation.

Filled with art, books and records - the Dome is for made for dreaming. Mix a drink at the bar, play a game of horse-shoes, fire up the grill, watch a movie, or just sit outside and scan the skies for shooting stars.

We've outfitted the Dome with all the comforts of home, from organic towels and bedding from Coyuchi and Matteo to fresh Canyon Coffee (brew by your choice of drip, French press or classic Mr. Coffee method) as well HD TV with access to Netflix, Amazon, HBO and the Criterion Channel.

Dig through the owners' collection of art, books, and records, or play our Abracadabra Dome curated playlist on Spotify through the dome's custom Singing Wood speakers.

Perfect for couples or families with older children, the Dome features a large loft bedroom with an organic Avocado king mattress and adjoining full bath.

On the first floor, a sunny side room features two twin beds that can be latched together to form a full. Sliding glass doors lead to a deck and 8 ft by 2 ft. deep circular cowboy pool, perfect for cooling off on hot days. A smaller 6ft cowboy tub is also an option for solo soaks.

The Dome's downstairs features a second full bath, a bar, dining space for six, a living area with TV, comfy Moroccan poufs, sheepskins and a leather couch that reclines into a comfortable full bed.

The kitchen is equipped with a small fridge and stove, microwave, dishwasher, toaster oven, blender, electric kettle, coffeemaker(s), beautiful glass and ceramic dinnerware, and all the chef essentials - from salad spinner to cast iron pans.

Outside, you can cook on the new gas grill, eat at the outdoor dining table, or just chill in one of the many hammocks and lounge chairs scattered throughout the property.

The Dome is just off the main road to Landers, far enough out in nature to enjoy a clear view of the sunset over the mountains, but close enough to Landers Brew, La Copine and the shops in Yucca Valley and Joshua Tree to feel a part of the action.

The high desert has been a respite for artists for decades, a place to clear the mind and ignite the imagination. We have been coming to the desert ourselves for several years to explore and create. Jessica wrote her first book here, a biography on country rock musician Gram Parsons and Jed has played numerous concerts in the area as well. Now, we are excited to share the magic of the desert and the Abracadabra Dome with YOU!

xo, Jessica & Jed

* The property is entirely fenced in and dogs are welcome (please check the house rules about dogs and let us know), but watch for cholla cactus and prickly things!

** The dome is an intimate space, perfect for solo travelers, couples and groups of close friends. Small families with with older kids or infants will have a great time here too.

*** If you're interested in the dome for photo/film shoots, extended creative retreats or smaller events, please contact us separately for rates and info..

****As always, please be respectful and kind. We share our road with a few neighbors, so no huge parties and no open flames or fires, as the high desert is a fragile environment and extremely prone to wildfires.

*****We believe in giving back. A portion of all rentals will go to the Mojave Land Trust in support of their desert conservation efforts.

LOCAL ADD-ON EXPERIENCES

From sound baths and in-home massages to stargazing under some of the darkest skies in Southern California, we've handpicked local vendors to match whatever mood you're in. Book a personal chef for a lazy night in, saddle up for a horseback ride, or take a guided hike through the National Park or other local trails. However you want to spend your time here, relaxing or adventuring, the desert (and our favorite locals) has you covered. Once your reservation is confirmed, let us know you are interested and we will connect you!

Guest Access:

The property and house is yours to roam and relax.

Getting Around:

We recommend traveling by car to explore Joshua Tree for maximum flexibility, as ride sharing services are unreliable. If you prefer not to drive, the local taxi service Lucky 777 is a dependable option. Our property offers free parking for up to four vehicles to ensure your car is kept secure during your stay.

Other Things to Note:

3:00PM Check-In: We'd love for you to check in before 8pm so you have plenty of daylight to settle in and get comfortable before dark.

Guest Policy: We only allow the number of guests listed as the maximum occupancy for this property, so any additional day guests must be requested and approved in advance. No extra overnight guests are permitted beyond those included in your reservation.

Watch your Step: This desert land holds onto bits of its past, so you may spot the occasional rusty object or piece of glass in the yard, please wear shoes anytime you're outside. You'll also be sharing the landscape with local snakes and scorpions. They want nothing to do with you, so if you see one, just back away calmly and quietly

Wood Burning Fires: We do not permit wood-burning fires anywhere on the property at any time, including in fire pits or fireplaces, due to the high risk of wildfire in our area. This policy is strictly enforced for the safety of our guests, neighbors, and the surrounding landscape,.

Desert Critters: Please keep doors closed while entering and exiting, curious critters will let themselves in given the chance. Desert wildlife is part of what makes this area special, expect sightings of jackrabbits, tortoises, roadrunners, quail, and lizards. You may also spot coyotes, rattlesnakes, scorpions, or occasionally a bobcat or mountain lion. Most just want their space, so it's best to give them yours.

Camera/ Decible Monitor: This property has forward-facing exterior security cameras, but there are no cameras anywhere inside the home. We also use noise decibel monitors indoors to help avoid disturbing neighbors. These only measure sound levels and never record audio.

Interaction with Guests:

We like to respect our guest’s privacy, so you won’t see too much of us. We will be available to answer any questions and to make your stay more enjoyable.

We never wanted to leave!!!! I absolutely fell in love with this home. For my 30th birthday I searched endlessly for a place that would offer my husband and I some guaranteed solace. This was exactly that. In the high desert, looking up at the stars at night was an experience of a lifetime. We gazed for hours! Many shooting stars were seen and easily visible to the naked eye. And with the canyon winds blowing in the air, it was absolutely perfect timing for the cowboy pool (early June). The dome home itself is a stunning example of architecture. It was magnificently decorated, all organic towels, and plenty of comfortable bedding spaces! The bluetooth speakers were a hit! You can listen to music crystal clear through the building. I looked through the intriguing selection of books to read and really enjoyed 'Linda Goodman's Sun Sign' I saw in a basket. The lamps, lanterns, lighting, furnishings, hammock, everything was choice! A huge Thank you so much, to Jess & Jed and anyone who has contributed to this spectacular hidden gem. We miss it already... only regret is that we should have booked more nights lol. 10/10!!!! Love, Cliff & Mayra

We flew in from Washington State for the weekend to finish planning our wedding. We were looking for a place to unwind from our everyday busy lives. We weren’t disappointed. The dome house is beautiful and peaceful. We didn’t get the chance to enjoy the cowboy tub, but we sat outside and watched the sunset and the sunrise. I feel rejuvenated already! Looking forward to visiting again in the future.

My sister, my pet pug and I had an excellent stay at this dome! We slept one night there, and then checked out in the morning to spend the day hiking Joshua Tree. It was super well kept and nice! I'd plan to stay 2 nights next time. The acoustics are fascinatingly cool in there, and we enjoyed all the lounging areas available. Very chill. I like that the whole property was gated so I didn't have to worry about losing my doggie during pet potty breaks. I would book this property again for my next trip to Joshua Tree! Thank you so much!
