About this house rental
We are located off of historic Gilmore Trail appx. 10 miles north of Fairbanks. Our cute 3b.r.- 1 bath home can comfortably accommodate up to 6 people and is perfect for anyone who is interested in exploring the Last Frontier at your own pace. We have a large deck located on the 2nd floor and a large front porch, both overlooking the historic Gold filled hills north of town. Great for watching the Northern Lights or enjoying the Midnight Sun! We have a fully equipped kitchen and we always provide, with our compliments, a food 'Starter Kit' with things like Bacon & Eggs, OJ,milk, cereal, oatmeal, bread, butter, PB&J, a variety of condiments, salad dressings, spices, and more, as well as snacks & some bottled water. In the freezer there are always a couple of pizzas! So much easier then trying to find a Grocery store before you've even had a chance to get settled in! With a little notice, we can pick you up or drop you off at the Airport or Train Depot. We are Dog friendly & even have a little 'Starter Kit' for Fido! We live next door so no matter what time of year you come to Alaska, we are always available should you need anything & we will do our absolute best to make sure you and your family & friends have a great visit! No matter where you choose to stay, whether with us or elsewhere, we hope you have a wonderful time in Alaska!

WOW! ….is all I can say. Laura goes above and beyond. She stalked our fridge, met me at the airport to follow her to the house, would text me back in an instant, had the house stalked with everything we needed, gave us recommendations, and even told us when the northern lights were out! She truly made my trip 100x better and will be the ONLY place I ever recommend or stay at in Fairbanks!

The best choice we made for our family was to stay at the Gilmore House, rather than in downtown Fairbanks. Hand built by the owners, the house is warm, well-supplied and maintained, set perfectly in the woods, but not far from main roads and, as a bonus, full of good vibes. You can feel that it is a well loved home. Laura Duffy shared numerous resources and let us know when the aurora was out at night, no matter the time. Truly, just right, for a winter vacation in Alaska.

A few of us got together for New Years Eve and the Gilmore house was absolutely perfect. Great location, secluded but not too far from Fairbanks. The hosts were incredible, very friendly and quick to be of any help they could. They even invited us for a small bonfire they had, which was super fun. Would definitely go back and recommend.

We loved our stay at the Gilmore House. The views were incredible, with just the right amount of rustic charm. We were all so comfortable and happy there. The best part of the stay was our incredible hosts who made sure we had everything we needed from snacks and meal starters on arrival to links to activities and tips for seeing the aurora. They went above and beyond in every way and we can’t thank them enough. Hopefully we’ll return soon and stay at Gilmore House again!

We were lucky enough to have a beautiful night of “the lights.” We watched the Aurora right from the front yard. The home is beautiful and very clean. The starter kit of food was very helpful. Laura was wonderfully communicative regarding the lights and things to do in town. If your coming to Fairbanks, you must stay here.

We loved our stay at Gilmore House. The service from Laura & Martin was unparalleled. They sent us ideas for places to eat and things to do. They checked on us when the weather was bad and offered to send us a message when the aurora was out (even in the middle of the night). When it snowed, they cleared the walk for us and brought out sleds for our boys. I hope to get to stay there again!

Great place to relax for a few days. Had everything we needed. Host went above and beyond to be helpful, friendly, generous, and informative. The location is easy to get to and convenient to town. Perfect spot for viewing aurora. ONLy thing i could mention that was a bit of a downside was the stairs. A bit steep, and had to duck coming down ( i am 5’8”). Otherwise, GREAT place. If i’m ever in fairbanks again, would definitely stay here.

This is a super clean, quiet, and easy place to stay. The hosts are immediately responsive. The extra touches like coffee and breakfast supplies make this a first choice for my next visit to FAI.

Martin and Laura have been amazing since the first day we booked this home with them. From ideas and recommendations for our stay to making sure we were taken care of walking in the door. I can’t say enough about these two. I feel like I’ve known them for years!! They are exceptional hosts and anyone who stays will not be disappointed.

We are so happy we found this place. We had the most relaxing stay. The house had everything we needed and the beds were very comfortable. It has so much charm and character. Great place to see the Aurora if shes out.
Laura was amazing, and certainly made us feel welcome and at home. We are definitely staying here again, if it's available would we come in to town.
I almost don't even want to share my review because that means all of you might take it when I need it, lol.

Laura and Martin are amazing hosts and they have a great house with lots and lots of historical artifacts. Without any doubt, if we are ever in Fairbanks again, this property will be our default choice.

My family and I enjoyed our stay very much. Laura was super helpful even before our arrival giving us suggestions. I have a 18 month old had everything I needed at the house Laura even provided a stroller for us which was very kind. She was helpful any time I asked a question. She so sweet to our family specially our little girl. The house was just so homey and welcoming we had everything we needed and everything was just a short drive from us. Denali park was about 2 hr drive but worth the drive. We are so happy we picked the Gilmore house for our stay at Fairbanks.

Love the place, so peaceful. Close to airport 20 minutes and main town. The host Laura and Martin were so attentive. Our flight was delayed and they even offer to pick us up from airport if rental car was closed. We had bacon and eggs ready for breakfast in fridge with snacks, truly appreciate it. Husband cooked an amazing salmon, I recommend adding dinner options for a charge $$ since it was one of the beat things we ate 😊

This is a most delightful cottage in a great settings - just 15-20 minutes drive from major stores of Fairbanks, yet very quite and secluded. Beautifully decorated with a lot of fascinating historical pieces that we loved to explore learning about Alaska. The hosts were most gracious and helpful - the best and most caring hosts that we have ever met in our many years of renting vacation houses! Highly recommend!

This was our best stay ever!!! Our hosts Laura and Martin made sure of that. From day one until the very last moment they were there for us. They told us of all the restaurants ,tours, shops ,events that Fairbanks had to offer. The Gilmore house was so cozy and the grounds were just beautiful. Laura and Martin made sure all the essentials where there and even a little extra requests, when we arrived. We have never had such an amazing welcome from any other VRBO that we have stayed at. We will defiantly stay here again and again. Thank you Laura and Martin ;-)

The Gilmore House was by far the best place we stayed at out of all 5 places during this trip.
Laura and Martin we pleasant and respectful! The left essentials in the like, milk, juice, eggs, coffee, bread. They also left a couple frozen pizzas in the freezer along with bacon and biscuits. There was snacks, bottled water and other things. The house was beautiful and filled with historical artifacts and items with descriptions. There were beautiful flowers located throughout the property. There are 2 decks one upstairs and off the front of the house. We enjoyed both. It was a great place to reflect after a busy vacation and enjoy chatting about our Alaskan adventure. Thank you so much, with love from Wisconsin and Tennessee.

Great location for our journey up the Dalton Highway. Laura was so helpful in providing current maps, answering questions, and checking to see that we arrived back safely! The "starter food" she provided was a wonderful plus for us! Beds were comfortable, home was clean.

2 single friends staying at one of the most unique homes I've ever rented. The house was built by the owners, is sound, and is filled with artifacts from Alaska. Many old photographs, pelts, objects, games, books adorn every corner. The hosts provided plenty of breakfast items to carry us during our stay. Even fresh salad greens to pick off the deck and eggs from a neighbor!
The driveway is dirt, steep and has ruts but our SUV handled it fine. There are several steps into the house. A 2 story house with 2 bedrooms upstairs, 1 downstairs. The bathroom is upstairs. One of us stayed downstairs, one in the master upstairs. The master bed was too high for me, and the stairs too much of a challenge for me to get my luggage up the stairs, so I stayed downstairs. Flannel sheets on both beds, comfortable beds and pillows. Paper blackout shades in both bedrooms. Clean house, wonderful decks both upstairs and down. Hosts live in another house on the property but we had privacy. There is no dishwasher or washer and dryer, but that wasn't an issue for us.
We both felt this was a very comfortable home, I didn't meet the husband but my friend did who enjoyed his humor. We met the woman upon our arrival and she was most friendly and helpful. Wonderful home!

We stayed for 2 nights on a family vacation and I wish we could stay longer. Laura and Martin (& harper 🐶) were the best hosts! They recommended amazing food and activities, left snacks and food for us and even stopped by to say hi! The house is clean, stocked and the yard is beautiful. It’s very quiet and the perfect nature getaway. If you’re coming to Fairbanks, I recommend staying here. Plus they allow dogs and even left doggie bags & bowls for Max. He really enjoyed the yard 🐶❤️

This was our first time using VRBO. I can honestly tell you that Martin & Laura set the bar pretty high. I can only hope that all our VRBO experiences are as wonderful. They thought of everything and were so gracious to us. We would definitely stay here again. We highly recommend the Gilmore House.

This house was absolutely perfect for our stay!! And once Laura & Martin found out this was our first visit to Alaska they were super helpful. Laura sent us a ton of recommendations of things to do. We will definitely check to see if Gilmore House is available for our next visit

Laura and Martin were great hosts. We met them and their giant dog, Harper. So friendly and accommodating! Everything was as stated - and then some! The location could not have been better either - about 10 min from town but quiet place in the woods. I would stay there again any day!!

My daughter & I really enjoyed ourselves! The home was so cozy, everything you need was there! Loved the food provided it was very thoughtful! Also, great communication with the owners! Laura gave multiple recommendations & kept me updated about viewing the Northern Lights which we were able to view from the deck!! I would definitely come back if I ever find myself back in Fairbanks!

We had a truly magnificent stay at Gilmore Hose. It was in a great location, had tons of historical artifacts and memorabilia and the hosts were very welcoming. Our hosts Martin and Laura were so kind. They helped us get our car unstuck in the snow covered driveway and Laura stayed up to watch for the aurora and would text us when out. I can’t say enough how wonderful they were. We will stay here again if we get to return to Fairbanks.

This house was a surprise. It gave you such a warm feeling as soon as you walked in. Laura and Martin where superb hosts. The communication before we got there. Sharing places that we may want to see to after we arrived with helping to spot the northern lights. This little house was an adventure all its own with the many things they used to decorate. We went in winter, they had sleds and snow shoes for you to use. We had the very best time and alot was due to staying at gilmore house. It's beautiful. If you want an alaskan experience you have to start it with Gilmore House.

The house is a mini museum with antiques and local historical pieces throughout the home. There are amazing views from the living room and main bedroom. Plenty of space on the property for our kids to play as well. The best part of the property in our opinion though are the hosts. Laura and Martin went above and beyond to make sure we had a comfortable and relaxing vacation. From the breakfast items they stocked for us, to offering us recommendations on restaurants and activities, to shuttling us around town when we needed help getting around, to the aurora heads up texts, they were always there to help with anything we needed help with. They really treated us like family.

Our family of four (inc kids 15 and 11) stayed for 5 nights in mid February. First off, you cannot find better hosts. The foodstuffs they left for us were exceedingly helpful! Laura and Martin went above and beyond to answer our questions and gave us a TON of recommendations. They even offered to call/text when northern lights came out! Just wonderful!
The house is very warm and cozy. It is eclectic and we enjoyed reading the signs and learning some history from the decor. The games were fantastic and we spent our non-tourism hours playing Clue and Scrabble. It was a highlight! The beds were so very comfortable and we all had great sleep. The water is hot, so our showers were great after being out in the snow/cold.
A couple of things to note (but don't diminish the wonderful stay): The stairs have a low ceiling at the bottom. My 6'3" hubby hit his head a few times going up. We all had to duck when going down. There isn't much of a railing on the landing/stairs so be weary if you have tiny kids. No dishwasher or vent, so you will need to open a window/door if you fry up the bacon they provide =)
I highly recommend this cute, cozy home with exceptional hosts. It was about 15-25 minutes from the airport/downtown, but the snow-covered roads were all manageable. We loved the peace and quiet and would stay again!

Our Gilmore house stay was absolutely wonderful. The house was just a short drive from town (about 15 minutes in the snow) and was very easy to get to. Laura's communication before, during, and after the stay was perfect. She made sure we had everything we needed and provided excellent recommendations on things to do and places to eat during out stay. I would absolutely recommend staying at this place if you are in the Fairbanks area.

We arrived in Fairbanks in the middle of the night because of our flight, and had no problems with checking in. Laura maintained communication with us throughout and left lights on for our arrival.
The home was perfect for our needs. Warm, cozy and inviting, we had everything we needed. The location was a perfect distance to everything we had planned and we were lucky to have nightly viewings of the Northern Lights.
We would absolutely recommend staying here and we would certainly stay again when we are back in Alaska!

If you are coming to stay at Fairbanks, look no further than this gem of a place. The photos online don’t do it justice. The location is about 10 miles outside of town, so you feel like you’re in the wilderness of Alaska. The owners live next door and are super helpful if there are any issues. I saw the Northern Lights from the bedroom! They even called us when the lights were out. A great place and an amazing visit. Thank you!

It is hard to put in words how wonderful my stay was. I have never been treated with such a welcoming atmosphere. If I could give a higher rating, I would. You can tell that the hosts take great pride in their cottage. I have no complaints and will be back for another stay.
