The hotel itself was charming and the rooms were sophisticated and well appointed. The staff on arrival was very charming. I wasn't expecting such a smart hotel in such a small (albeit well known) village and we we were excited with our discovery. The hotel also has a casual dining place called Le Comptoir, which was genuinely excellent.
As mentioned, the hotel itself was excellent. Unfortunately, we noticed a large number of ants coming in through the full length window in one of the rooms. This was pointed out to the staff on arrival, who said that they would deal with it. An ant trap was placed on the floor, but this did not help. There is no staff on duty at night when we returned to the room to report this to. Our children were in the room and one of them got bitten. In the morning, I showed the video i had taken of the ants to the manager who did apologise, but said that they did not have any spray or powder to deal with it. I asked if there was some way we could be compensated and asked if breakfast could be offered to the family as compensation. The breakfast was EUR24pp and i was told that only one breakfast could be offered as it was too expensive otherwise. A token amount was taken off the bill for one of the rooms that we took, but i think breakfast would've been an easy and elegant way to have dealt with it. It is an excellent hotel in all other respects, but i think this matter would've been dealt with in a better way by a more experienced manager. I have worked in a hotel, and there will always be issues that arise, whether it's a problem with the room or with a difficult guest. The top hotels know how to deal with anything thrown at them.
