Not really in the rain forest but in a more agricultural area, but nevertheless a perfect place to explore the North side of the Colón province. Hotel room was spacious with multiple beds, good mattresses, towels, shower, and nice breakfast all with value for money.
It stands away from the road so it's quiet.
Besides Portobelo, with its Rome restaurant managed by spectacular chef Dammy with 20-years of experience in restaurants in Rome, Naples, and Venice, who delights in preparing an authentic Italian seafood meal (and speaks Italian), a short distance from the hotel are small harbors where locals can offer you an inexpensive boat tour through the mangrove "love-lane" and Mamey and Linton islands and/or isla Grande.
Perhaps not the deserted island experience that San Blas islands offer, but nevertheless a Caribbean island experience without the long off-road drive and highly touristic scene. Isla Mamey is the party island for locals during the weekend. No bus tours with tourists here.
For us, combining the Mamey tour with Pacific Coiba island and a longer stay at Bocas del Toro (Carenero island) provided all the sunny sandy snorkeling island experience we were looking for. Be amazed by the many expensive shipwrecked yachts in this area. Tip: don't forget to swim at Playa Langosta on the way to Portobelo. This is also a nice beach with locals and excellent fresh fish meals for a small price.

Excelente todo!
Solo pasamos unas horas porque llegamos en la tarde y nos fuimos a realizar los paseos y al día siguiente teníamos el vuelo temprano. Lamentamos no haber tenido más días para quedarnos.

Sehr freundliche Gastgeberin, tolles frisch zubereitetes Frühstück, viel Vegetation mit Wildtieren (v.a. Vögel) in unmittelbarer Umgebung
Leider war gerade vieles in Renovierung. Es gab nur kaltes Wasser, Pool und Terrasse waren gesperrt und nicht functional, das Zimmer war schlicht eingerichtet. Leider gab es auf Grund der Lage viele Mücken!

"Staff was amazing. Wildlife was beautiful. Not all rooms have hot water, but ours did. Short drive to beaches and restaurants of Portobello. Price was very reasonable. Breakfast was cheap and good."
