We had a wonderful week in South Haven! The house had everything we needed, plenty of space for everyone to spread out and relax, and a quick easy walk to town for restaurants and shopping. We would love to go back!

My husband, our 7yo twins, my mother, sister and her 4yo daughter visited South Haven for the first time and enjoyed our stay at the house on Phoenix Street! When we first pulled up, it didn’t appear to be blocks from town - but sure enough, it was an easy, walkable few minutes and we were right there. Phoenix Street itself is pretty busy so we rode our bikes on the back streets/thru the neighborhoods to get to Kids Korner playground and beach for July 4th fireworks, to access the Kal Haven trail to ride and pick berries, and to town to go to the farmers market and get ice cream.
The house was clean and the foam mattresses were very comfortable. My mother aka “Grandma” appreciated having a bedroom/bathroom on the first floor — and sharing her bathroom (only accessible thru her room) was not an issue for us.
Thanks for having us!

The house was as advertised and overall we had a great visit to South Haven. Brent responded quickly to communication and the house was clean with plenty of space for our family of 8 adults and 4 kids (under 4). A few things to note that weren’t deal breakers but just something to be aware of- there was no garbage bags in the house except for the one in the garbage can when we arrived and there was only 2 rolls of toilet paper in each bathroom, so we did have to stock up. If you are planning to cook, there is very little in the cabinets in terms of cooking supplies (seasoning, cooking spray, left over coffee, etc). Make sure to bring everything you need when preparing to cook. I read a few reviews about the temperature being an issue in the bedrooms, but we felt all the rooms were well regulated and there was plenty of Ac at night. The house is on a rather busy street, so it can be a little loud with traffic but you’re very close to the downtown (5-10 min walk). We did not find the beach to be walkable (with kids and beach stuff) but we’re able to purchase a parking pass each day for $10 per day. Overall, we would stay again.

This was the perfect spot ( great neighborhood/ beautiful spacious home/ gorgeous roomy kitchen/large dining room table and space where everyone could fit comfortably/ cozy outdoor spaces) for our family get together to celebrate Dad who passed recently and wanted his ashes spread nearby where our family cottage used to be. The only negative was a large rule book stating more rules than I’ve ever seen at a VRBO location. And absolutely no workability re later check out ( we live in LA and our flight wasn’t until much later) than 10am plus the maid service showed up at early at 9am.

We enjoyed our time staying at this property during our time in South Haven. The host communication was quick, the check-in was seamless, the property clean and in an excellent location from all South Haven has to offer. The only thing I feel needs to be mentioned is that 3 of the 4 bedrooms have direct access to a bathroom, but the occupants of the 4th bedroom must pass through one bedroom to access the upstairs bathroom or go downstairs and through another bedroom to the other full bath. It isn’t a problem per se, just something to be aware of. If someone needs access in the middle of the night, it could be an issue. The house is well maintained for an older home, the furniture and beds very comfortable and the rooms are all spacious. We particularly enjoyed the breezeway porch. We would definitely stay here again when visiting the area.

The house had more than enough space. It is well within walking distance to the beach. I recommend renting or bringing your own bicycles to get around town. We prepared all our meals in the kitchen. My only recommendation is to repair the two stove burners that are out. It was hard to cook for everyone with only two burners. The small enclosed garden was nice too. We had a fire most nights and it was a great way to end the day. Overall I highly recommend this property.

This was a Great House! Perfect for our Cousin Camp vacation! 3 families from 3 different areas, 5 kids LOVED the Bunk room. Space was perfect for our group! The kitchen had all the tools and gadgets we needed to cook Breakfast and grill a post beach snack. All communication with the owner was quick responsive. We talked about coming back again in 2023!

House was cute and well cared for, as well as nicely stocked ---
lots of towels and better than average number of kitchen items.
One (very small) negative is that the first floor bathroom sink was slow to drain.
Queen mattresses were a bit soft, but not horrible.
All in all, we agree we'd book this house again.

We had a great stay. We haven’t been to the SoHa in several years. Our youngest is 9 and we found downtown to be an easy enough walk to the shops and food (but mostly ice cream).
The walk would be too far for the beach. But even on a busy 4th of July weekend we always found street parking in the Kids’ Corner area.
We loved the house. My favorite was napping in the breezeway. Our kids favorite was the fire pit.

The house was great, everything was as described and there weren’t any unfortunate surprises which tends to happen a lot while staying at a rental property. It was also one of the best vrbos we’ve stayed at in terms of having enough towels, toilet paper, kitchen supplies etc for everyone. I know some reviews mentioned that the upstairs bedrooms got too warm, we didn’t find that to be the case.

Nice place for family gathering.
We enjoyed our stay at this house. The location, while not ideal for beach access, is an overall positive. It’s an easy 8-10 minute walk to the heart of downtown South Haven. It’s probably twice that to the beach. We opted to drive to the beach and pay for parking instead ($10). There’s not much yard space to play in, but just down the block there’s a small park with room to run around. There’s 2-minute access to I-196 and the retail and gas outlets that surround the exit but the house also feels separated from that busy interchange.
The house works well for a family or group gathering. There’s bed space for 12 (two spaces are top bunks) in the four bedrooms. The dining room features a large table that can sit 6-8 adults comfortably. We also took advantage of the back patio, which has a nice fire pit and room for 7-8 people to sit around. The gas grill on the front patio works well. The comfortable breezeway area is a great place to relax if the outdoor temperature is nice.
The downsides to the house are few: It’s hot upstairs on summer days, bathroom access is only through bedrooms, only 12 or so channels on the TV without many options for kids.
Overall though, I’d recommend this house, especially for a 6-8 person family or group.

Overall the house was lovely. The location was an amazing distance to the high school field for graduation AND a short 15 minute walk to pier, lighthouse, and downtown shops and restaurants. The back yard and little sun room were great for morning coffee and evening glass of wine. The only 2 negatives were that the bedroom with the bunkers had a window AC that did not have a cord long enough to plug in and even with attic fan on, it was uncomfortably hot in that room. Suggestion: buy an extension cord for the AC to allow it turn on or it's just a window ornament. Also, the wooden floors, although I understand this can be a difficult task, the floors were pretty dirty if you walk around barefoot or in socks. The flowers around the home made it exceptionally welcoming and warm. The person who answered the phone regarding the wifi was on top of it and pleasant. Great property and if we knew the AC worked in the bedroom, we would definitely rent again. South Haven Michigan, although in the north, is still pretty warm and humidity.

Property owner accused us of clogging her toilets. The toilets were clogged when we checked in. I let her know that the very next morning but accused us of clogging it. Said we clogged it with feminine products which none of us use. Kept our deposit. The house is really old (120+ years) and not well maintained. Also accused us of having a dog, which we did not. I have never disrespected someone’s property and feel very offended by the accused accusations.

Lovely house
We came with our three boys and had plenty of room to have our own space as well as places to come together for meals and games. The house was clean and comfortable. Short walk into town and not too long of a walk to the water. We really enjoyed playing games at Children’s Corner while watching the sunset in the evenings.

Perfectly Nice
Overall this was a decent property to rent. There were a couple of unexpected issues, for instances it was on a much busier road than I pictured and the yard was much smaller, however the driveway on the side of the house was on a very quiet side street and there was a large grassy park about two houses down. The traffic never ended up bothering me and the location was incredibly close to downtown allowing guests to easily walk the 1/2 mile, so although these were unexpected issues they were perfectly fine. The house has 2 bathrooms, however the access to both is through bedrooms which was a little inconvenient. Again, not a big deal I would just want to know that ahead of time. And the last unexpected issue was one of the bedrooms upstairs did not have air conditioning. (I didn't stay in it, so again - not an issue for me! My guess is because of the older window style it is impossible to use a standard window air conditioner). Definite positives were there were plenty of cleaning supplies, two available beach chairs with sand toys, and lots of room. Every area - kitchen, living room, dining room and all bedrooms - were large. Plenty of room for the whole family! I personally loved the feel of the house and especially the staircase. It is an older house (1895), but it is clean and neat and has lots of character.

Lovely lake cottage
This lake cottage was perfect for our little family. (6 adults, 1 toddler). It had everything we needed. The location was a short walk to town and just slightly longer walk to the beach/pier.
We will definitely be back!

Cute house but needs some help
We were a bit disappointed in our experience with this house. It is walking distance to several restaurants but the listing says 8 min walk to the beach when it’s actually about 20 mins. The air conditioning upstairs is terrible and doesn’t get into the bedrooms at all (fan blows air into the upstairs hallway only) so it was really hot in the upstairs bedrooms, especially in the master. The oven is old and doesn’t work... and it doesn’t fit any standard cookie sheet! There was hair all over the shower walls when we checked in and we killed about 15 bugs per day inside the house. The cable box also doesn’t work but the Roku stick did so we just used that in the evenings. The property manager was quick to respond to messages but nothing was fixable during our stay. Wouldn’t stay here again.
