Overall, a good stay at Boikhutsong. The expansive, open-plan kitchen-dining-lounge was a fantastic entertainment hub well equipped with reliable Wi-Fi and DSTV ideal for the football/soccer fans in us. From the three rooms offered, we chose Room 1, which was conveniently situated next to the kitchen and lounge area.
The host (Ndumiso) was timeously responsive to all our communication which was great. On-site support was top-notch. Wilson, the caretaker, was quite welcoming and attentive to all our needs.
The property also has a massive indoor-outdoor braai area complete with a table and chairs and equipped with table tennis. This facility is a standout amenity for groups, though we personally did not utilize it.
The stay was good value for money, clean and peaceful with serene views of the valley. The proximity to Sibebe Rock, just a short drive up the road, added great value to the location. Will surely consider this establishment again in future!
Below is a list of a few significant maintenance issues encountered that we strongly hope the host will address to optimize the potential of this great property:
1. The room was very humid and stuffy at arrival. It is recommended that the caretaker airs out the property thoroughly prior to guest check-in to ensure immediate comfort.
2. The refrigerator has a persistent/known malfunction, the problem has equally been identified by other guests several months prior, while we hoped it had been resolved when we booked, it sadly had not. Despite reporting it to the caretaker and being told a technician would come to fix, the technician never came, and the problem was ultimately not resolved during the stay. This is a major inconvenience, particularly for longer visits.
3. Bedroom 2: The wardrobe door is completely broken and hanging by a thread, making it risky and difficult to use.
4. Bedroom 3: While the largest room with the biggest bed and bathroom in the house, it has a leaking ceiling with a hole. We were advised that we would have to place a bucket during heavy rain if we were to take this room hence, we did not even though it was most appealing physically. It is our view that the damp damage creates the persistent unpleasant humidity and odour. With professional waterproofing and ceiling repair, this room will easily be the best due to its spaciousness relative to the other 2.
5. The water pressure throughout the property was consistently very low, which was a noticeable discomfort for showering and general use.
6. During check-out, the caretaker insisted on conducting a full walk-through of inspection of the entire house before we could depart (possibly their risk management mechanism). However, a prior notice of this policy would be appreciated, as some guests may find this practice uncomfortable and unfair to their integrity.
