The accommodation was clean, spacious and in a fantastic location, making it easy to explore beautiful Matera. Staying in an actual cave was such a unique experience and really added to the magic of this incredible town. The accommodation itself was lovely and comfortable.
We were disappointed to discover that we didn't have access to the baths, as the wording and photographs in the listing had led us to believe otherwise. While we're happy to put this down to a misunderstanding, we do feel the advertising could be clearer.
More than anything, though, we found the experience quite cold and impersonal. Compared to the wonderful hospitality we've experienced at other accommodation throughout Italy, there was very little warmth or welcome from the hosts. No local recommendations, restaurant suggestions, guide to the area or even those small personal touches that make you feel welcome.
Matera is such a magical place, and it would have been lovely to have hosts who shared a little of that magic with their guests. The accommodation itself was great, but the hospitality was definitely lacking.

It was quite damp and the accessibility for luggage was very difficult.
