The staff are absolutely incredible and assist you very well. I found the traditional bed very very uncomfortable and the staff assisted me and moved me into a western style room which was much better. English is very good. The bento boxes as well as the set dinner is also very yummy and incredible value for money.
I did not like the traditional bed it was much too hard on my back. If you need a soft bed then book accordingly.

Immediately below the train (& bus) stations, on Jiufen Old Street, so location is perfect. As advertised, the hotel does make its own bento box, and it was awesome, although we did also want to try the bento from the station café. We chose the Japanese-style room, with tatami mat bed, and a wooden bath: this created the perfect (unusual for us) experience. The staff were absolutely awesome. The firefly tour was available for free for the hotel guests; we loved this.
Although the hotel provided a NT$100 voucher to buy breakfast in the 7-11 immediately next door, a convenience store breakfast could never be the same as a locally-cooked breakfast. The dinner madse by the hotel restaurant was quite pricey, and we instead had an awesome meal in the restaurant right next door to the hotel.

The location was perfect, right on the old street and an easy walk to everywhere. The room itself was spacious, clean and comfortable.

The room was nice enough for a building half way up a mountain. The staff were excellent and helpful. The wifi was good
The bathtub is a traditional Japanese thing that isn't really big enough for a human.
Breakfast is just a voucher for the 7/11 next door and doesn't go very far.
The controls for everything in the room are on some horrible remote control wired into the wall with a frayed cable - looks like something from the 70s.
