We were late season for the Black Hills, and our first visit to the area. The Lodge is well located in the center of both the southern loops and the northern areas. The lodge is operated by the owners, and it is clear that they are pouring their hearts into caring for the place and for their guests. We had the King room, #11, and can't comment on any other spaces. The room was VERY clean. All the surfaces felt tended to, clean, fit well...carpet felt newish...Nice. The bed was very comfortable. Decorations were all matching, nice quality, chairs, throw pillows, bed pillows, bed quilt... Bathroom was a bit funny, and the toilet space was tight (I am 5'11, 200#), and the shower was a bit tight as well. That said, it is probably the era of construction, and not a criticism of the current owners or intent. The room was not large, the balcony listed in the promo turned out to be the walkway up with a couple chairs on it. The lodge is on the highway, and there was a lot of road noise that was only somewhat mitigated with closed door. Could have used a bit of hanging clothes space. We were there three nights, and worked out of our suitecases. A bit more counter/table space would help, and could be accommodated, I believe. Provided breakfast was packaged, sugary rolls, and coffee - and there weren't many choices nearby, so we bought granola and bananas for breakfast, but no real place to work with them. Overall, a 5 for care, 4 for details...

We stayed for 5 nights. This has got to be one of the best places that we have ever stayed. Cary and Melissa were excellent hosts. Kind. Greeted us every time we saw them. Made sure to make us feel welcome and made sure if we needed anything they’d get it. Room was immaculate. Very clean. Had a few dishes and silverware. There is a grill and pizza oven on the huge front porch/deck that you can use. Lots of seating and covered area to sit out and enjoy. Close to Hill City. They also sell bags of ice for your cooler. That was a plus. We didn’t have to find a gas station. Plenty of parking. And their dog is adorable too!

Excellent two day stay on the way to Yellowstone. Very clean. Owners accommodating and very helpful! Convenient location to attractions and coffee and grab and go breakfast provided was perfect!! Would definitely recommend!! My girls loved it too!

Great motel that felt like a hotel in the room! Big, soft towels, great mattresses on the beds, friendly, helpful owners. Loved the location as well! Not necessarily negatives but nice to know, the breakfast is very light (donuts, toast, yogurt, coffee and juice), and grab and go. Other thing to know is that the owners are very friendly but not always around. We arrived later in evening and they had called and told us our room number and just to go in when we arrived. Worked out fine, but just a thing to know. Would definitely stay here again!

The Mountain View is a great place to stay if you are visiting the Black Hills. You have easy access to all of the attractions in the Black Hills. The owners are great. When we had questions, they emailed back the same day. At breakfast they were happy chat with us. The place has great character. We stayed in a single room, not the cabins. There were two very comfortable queen sized beds and one single which was more than enough for our family of four. The inside of the rooms had one wall with wood paneling and bathroom door, trim and towel rack were all wood, very typical of SD. The towels were not the typical hotel ones, more like what we have at home. The room was impeccably clean and decorated well. From the porch you can see the blacks hills well. While the place on a main road, once inside the room, you can’t hear any of the cars.The included breakfast was sufficient. For a place on the small side, I felt the selection of food to be fine. One morning they had fresh biscuits out of the oven which were great. The pool was on the cold side but they had pool toys for my kids to play with and pool towels. In my conversations with the owners who recently took ownership, they have plans to make improvements. If you want a plain boring place to stay go with the chains, if you want a place with character, go with Mountain View

The only down fall was it was right on the highway. It was okay though. It's is very centrally located, which was great! The rooms were very homey. Outside of your room you had a table in two chairs. On the upper floor there was a huge balcony with an electric fire, two brand new grills to grill on, and a lot of outdoor furniture for everybody to gather at.overall all I would give it a 9!!

Fantastic! Owners are super friendly. Place is very clean, centraly located and very comfortable! I highly recommend Mountain View Lodge. We will definitely stay here again if we're in the area. Hated to leave...that's how comfortable we were!!

We had a top room and a downstairs room. It was small but beautiful. Reasonably price for the time we went (4th of July). Staff is two people but very efficient and kind. The location was great for us, a lot to do close by.

Cutest little place tucked right in the middle of all the must do things. Very clean and friendly. Minutes away from all the local attractions including Mt. Rushmore. Very inviting, relaxing atmosphere. We can’t wait to be back!

New owners. Pool too cold and wouldn’t turn up the heat. Our room needed some maintenance. Probably would only stay there in a pinch. There are better accommodations near by.

Great hotel. Locally owned and cared for and it shows. The favorite stop on our trip. Owners were really nice and helpful (e.g., Alpine Inn for dinner/dessert). Very comfortable beds and clean room. Breakfast is a nice touch and really appreciated they offer a locally brewed coffee. While it is right off the road, wasn't an issue for us. Pretty quiet. Perhaps time of year.

We were touring the area around Mt Rushmore and the property was in the perfect location. We saw all that the area had to offer and this hotel was perfect for it. The owners of the hotel were perfect hosts and made sure all of our needs were met. We couldn’t have asked for more.
