Hotel was very comfortable, very clean and hosts were welcoming. Check-in was easy since we arrived during the specified time window. Our special request was honored. We only have one improvement suggestion. The hotel detail indicated "Breakfast Included." It did not say continental breakfast, but that is all that was available. That was a disappointment. No hot food available other than instant oatmeal packs, but a lot of bread and roll choices, yogurt and hard boiled eggs.

This is a lovely old building, beautifully renovated, looking out over the river on one side, and a quiet country road on the other side. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and the dinners very tasty.

Wow, one of our best hotel stays ever! Before we had even arrived, we received a phone call that we were getting a complimentary upgrade (we hadn't even asked) due to special circumstances. That was just the beginning. Wonderful, welcoming & friendly staff, exceptionally clean room, nicely appointed & furnished room, excellent evening restaurant, fantastic continental breakfast (had something different almost every day). This is a well-managed property with plenty of convenient parking, a very accommodating staff & beautiful setting among the redwood forest & along the meandering Russian River. The Lodge served as our base for wine-tasting days in Napa, Sonoma, Alexander & Russian River Valleys. All the areas were a moderately short drive away. Please note that due to location of Monte Rio & its resort area, driving in & out is challenging because of curvy, squirrely roads...
On a purely anecdotal side note, regarding driving in California, no reflection on the Highland Dell Lodge:
My observations:
1- No matter how fast you're driving, there is always someone on your butt. Nighttime bonus: they also flash their lights (so you won't forget they are there)...
2- Only bicycles obey the speed limits!
3- CA drivers only yield to emergency vehicles.
4- The day we left:
Woodland CA Costco gas $4.47/gal,
Tucson AZ Costco $2.93/gal
Same vendor, same day. No comment...

Very nice old world charm. Very nice breakfast European style. Dinner was alright. Staff very helpful and hospitable. When I arrived, I thought, nice but don't think I'll be returning. By the time I was leaving, I thought, great and I can't wait to return.

Our room with the river view was so beautiful! The beds were ultra comfortable and we didn’t want to leave! They had home cooked german cuisine and we had dinner there both nights! We will be back again!

Surroundings were beautiful. After hours check in was a breeze. Breakfast was great. Motel was clean. Staff was friendly.

The facility is clean and has a lovely view. Rooms were small but efficient. Hooks on the back of bathroom door would be helpful for damp towels.
The owner was a bit rude upon check in. He asked if we wanted an upgrade and pointed out that we had the “cheapest room”. Also did not inform us of the WiFi password or the breakfast hours. The help staff was very gracious.

We enjoyed staying at this smaller bnb which is conveniently located on the river and just 10-15 minutes from the coast. There was a convenient breakfast in the morning before going out on our days adventures.
This lodge / hotel has less than 15 rooms. Has the feel of staying in a large home. You can have breakfast on the balcony overlooking the river or enjoy the spacious dining area.
We had the smaller single queen bed room. Everything was clean and worked well.

Nice rural lodging next to Russian River. Room is clean and bed is comfortable. Dinner at the restaurant is convienent, German cuisine and very good. Staff is cordial. Will stay again.

Too bad that the only access from hotel to the river and small deck involved stairs, several flights. And stairs only to our room.

We visit this hotel often. It's clean, comfortable and good breakfast. Close to forest, river and ocean. The only thing I wish there were handles on the bathroom door. Very difficult to open.

Very pleasant stay at this cute older inn. Comfortable bed and pillows, good shower, clean, excellent breakfast, good river access and helpful hosts. We would stay here again.

My boyfriend and I had a wonderful stay here with our dog. The location was great, room super clean and food at their restaurant was delicious (homemade German food)! We really enjoyed our time there and will likely visit again.

Took the grandkids to this area, to show them where The Birds was filmed, go to Bodega Bay, well as fish in the Russian River. Beautiful setting. Felt as though we were in Tahoe forest. Love the area, especially since we’re escaping Sacramento valley heat. Lovely place. Just wish our room faced the river. The street noise and light from their sign was a bit much. Breakfast was heavy on starches.

Ingrid and Herb are delightful! Their restaurant is a 10/10 for German food! We had a river view room with a balcony.
Quiet and peacful get away, yet close enough to the to Guereville and the beaches on the coast. Walk over the bridge and you are at a dog friendly beach.We will stay here again!

Our experience here was overall very disappointing. Though the hotel looks quaint, it was very basic. There was no microwave and no hot water (the water filter spout was broken) to use at our convenience. We had to really rely on the front desk to get these basic needs.
COVID is OVER so it's time to start putting microwaves back in rooms or at least offer one in the common area for guests to use as needed.
Also, our shower head in room 102 was pitiful. The bathroom was out dated and old. I had to use another room to take a shower.
On a good note: the continental breakfast was impressive. The coffee and the croissants were really good!
I would not recommend this place to anyone.

The property overall was very nice. Older but updated. Our experience at the restaurant was disappointing. We were seated per our reservation however the staff seemed overwhelmed by the number of people at the restaurant. Didn't seem to be a crazy ratio of staff to guests but we were fairly ignored in the corner. Not entirely certain of who was our waiter. Did not check on us often and we waited 20 minutes from when our dinner dishes were cleared and a check was brought to our table. We were not asked about dessert until we asked then. Once dessert was brought out and finished, we waited another 10 minutes for a check. Food was great but service was poor.

This is a strange place. it is located on the river where kayaking and swimming is possible. Therefore it attracts many
locals. The bar scene is very social.
However the hotel is filled with anxiety filled owners and staff. i was given a verbal slapping by one of the workers. He accused me for no reason of insulting him. I am a very pleasant person and had no idea what had caused this verbal attack on me. The owners seem over stretched and filled with anxiety. (maybe they are worried about their business, but it is not a way to make guests feel relaxed )
I don’t think I would return.

I brought my 12 year old son and sister for a night. I hadn’t been back to the Russian River since I was a child and it was just as magical as I remembered! The staff was very welcoming, access to the river was within steps of our room. All of the other guests we met were friendly. It was quiet and we felt very safe. The breakfast was lovely with a nice assortment of goodies. Good coffee. Will be back!
