The service and open bar at this boutique property are outstanding. The disappointment for us was the quality of the mattress and the noise in the hallways. We had a very interrupted sleep. The location is fantastic. The staff and service are fantastic! So many great reasons to stay here. Thanks to the fantastic staff we had a great dinner at their recommendation as well as breakfast. Thanks guys!

We had a lovely stay at El Colonial! The staff were so friendly and attentive - they could not have been nicer! Our room was also comfortable and clean, with great A/C. We had a room on the 4th floor that didn't face the street, (windows opened onto an interior courtyard), so it was also very quiet (apparently, some of the rooms facing the main street can be a bit louder on night). Our room was a little small, with fairly bare-bone features, but that is to be expected at a historic hotel - it overall had everything we needed to have a comfortable night's sleep and "home base' during our 3 days in the city. The open bar in the lobby was a huge plus, as was the gorgeous rooftop deck! The hotel is located right in the heart of Old San Juan, easy walking distance to all major sites in the historic district. Overall, highly recommend this lovely hotel, and we would definitely stay again! FYI - as mentioned on their website, there is no elevator, so probably not the best option for guests with mobility impairments. But the hotel staff will happily move your luggage.

We loved pretty much everything about El Colonial, from the warm welcome to the awesome rooftop to our rooms. The beds were very comfy and it was so well located, close to everything. Parking is a short 2 blocks away in a secure garage. The lobby bar is a major plus. We will stay there again.

Our stay was amazing it was in the perfect spot. Everyone was friendly. And night it was so peaceful. The staff was very helpful as well as friendly. The fact that it was free open bar, i was impressed. It was an older building, i loved it. You could walk to the restaurants, and bars and shops. Anything you needed was right there. The only thing i didn't like was there was no hot water, we had to take cold showers. Other then that it was great.

From the amazing check-in experience (immediately attended to, provided a drink, bags taken care of, etc) to the daily room service, open bar, local suggestions from staff and everything in between, this place is a must stay. Location was great (tons of places to eat and things to see) and the roof top was a nice touch to still be able to relax without leaving the hotel but also without being inside the room if you wanted a break from the streets.

I'm going to write a better, longer review later. On the run right now I'll just say that Luis, Angel Adriel and Gerardo were fantastic hosts. The historic building and free bar were very cool. We will definitely return. The "no kids" and key code entry and exit features were great.

The building is old and has some charm so guess you give up on some comforts. Could do with repairs to tile floors, descale shower head, maybe mattress pads on the twin beds as they are very firm Need a way to turn off very bright temp light on air conditioner. Personnel helpful and friendly. Think property over priced but seems to be going rate in area. You really pay for the location

Location is perfect if you want to stay in Old San Juan. Staff was so sweet, hospitable, and friendly. Loved the rooftop and the house made drinks. My partner and I loved it and will come back next time we visit!

This really was a gem! Perfect location with walking distance to great bars and restaurants and close to cruise port!Great staff welcomed you with a cocktail.Open bar also! Comfortable bed but small bathroom! No elevator but staff helped carrying all our suitcases!!Only downside is the whole echoing and poor toilet draining due to an old establishment that was renovated with great vibe!!

We had a blast in Old San Juan for Christmas. We stayed at El Colonial. The staff couldn’t have been friendlier or more accommodating. The room was clean and comfortable. The free bar at all hours was amazing! The hotel is right in the middle of everything, but it’s quiet. If you have any walking issues, this hotel is not for you. There’s no elevator. The staff was very helpful with our bags.

Room Floors are in DISGUSTING condition. The property is very old. Be prepared to put you toilet paper in the garbage NOT in the toilet. The staff is GREAT and the drinks are free.

I can’t explain how beautiful every staff was to us. So welcoming and friendly. The fact that after a long day you walk in and the Drinks were amazing and needed. We will def be back soon! Felt totally safe. My room looked over old San Juan streets. Can’t wait to go back!

Gorgeous older building right in the heart of Old San Juan. Wonderful for walking the city streets and a fairly easy walk to both forts. The rooftop terrace was gorgeous and peaceful. The open bar in the lobby was a wonderful perk - coffee in the morning, rum & coke in the afternoon, water and soda available. Just such a nice thing to offer. The staff was amazing and so helpful and kind.
