HORROR STAY - SPIDER INFESTATION
The area around.
HORROR STAY: Absolute Nightmare & Severe Safety Hazard
Rating: 1 / 5 Stars
Property Name: Cozy Mountaintop Retreat < 6 Mi to Ski Cloudcroft! ("CUE THE ELK")
Location: Cloudcroft, NM
This property was a horror story. Do not trust the online photos on Booking.com or Evolve—what we experienced was an unsafe, infested, and completely unacceptable environment for any family.
Infestation & Unsafe Sleeping: Spiders were everywhere—crawling inside the bathtub, basin, and across wall trim, with thick spiderwebs left hanging around the electrical panels. It is impossible to sleep safely or comfortably when pests are crawling around the room and bathing areas.
Holes in Ceilings & Walls: Ceilings and walls are severely damaged, including a broken ceiling panel hanging wide open around an overhead light fixture that exposes raw interior framing and rafters, along with unfinished drywall patches and gaping holes near floor registers.
Unanchored Safety Hazard: A massive, heavy wooden dresser mirror was left completely unanchored on top of a dresser, posing an immediate tip-over threat to anyone in the room.
Missing Bed Frames: Despite listing photos showing full bed frames, mattresses were dumped directly on the carpeted floor, with cots set up in common areas.
Pet Allergen & Dander Exposure: Despite an official "No Pets Allowed" rule, the unit was caked in dog hair, pine needles, and pet dander under furniture and on sofas, with dog beds left behind and doors heavily chewed/splintered by the owner's pets.
Gross Insecurity & Unusable Amenities: The shower drain was clogged with hair and filth, while the electric kettle was crusted with thick, flaking mineral scale, making it unusable for drinking water. Loose extension cords were tangled across primary walkways.
When reported, Evolve and Booking.com dismissed this terrifying experience as "minor cosmetic issues".
