During dry dock the Whatcom Chief (our vehicle ferry) is taken out of service for maintenance and repairs. Whatcom County supplies a passenger only ferry while the Whatcom Chief is away. Typically there is a parking area on the mainland side and a regularly scheduled passenger shuttle on the island. Many Islanders leave one car on each side during this time though many of them use the shuttle, walk or get rides from willing Islanders. With far fewer cars traveling the island, there is more quiet and tranquility. The passenger only ferry gets us out of our cars on Gooseberry Point to enjoy the fresh air and scenery as we wait for the ferry. Once aboard the ferry we are able to sit on top and truly enjoy the short trip across Hale Passage. It is indeed a special time on the island. While we believe dry dock can be a wonderful time to truly get away from it all, we understand that these circumstances may not be for everyone. To afford such privacy as you will find at the Heron's Nest Cabin there is a steep driveway. Care must be taken traversing up or down the driveway. There is an outside surveillance camera which will not be monitored during your stay. It is for security when the home is vacant. The cabin is on a hill so care must be taken when nearing slopes and traversing around trees and other natural areas. Watch the weather forecast as it may be difficult to access if there is ice or snow. A Rental Agreement regarding the home is required to be signed by the guest on the booking before the cancellation period ends. The agreement will be sent to you through the booking platform upon booking. As a professionally managed property you will receive top notch service and communication. PNW Concierge has a team ready to assist you before and during your stay. We offer superior pre-stay information and services to ensure your vacation will be the best it can be! We prepare the Heron's Nest Cabin with you in mind, taking care of the cleaning and preparation so you don't have to worry about a thing. During your stay we are available to assist you with your questions about the house, the island and the surrounding area. We also limit our check out instructions - run the dishwasher, lock the windows and doors, and take out the trash if it's stinky - THAT'S IT! Feel confident (and pampered) when you book with PNW Concierge LLC! If you prefer to have your groceries or something special in the house upon your arrival guests may order concierge service as a separate amenity from this booking by going to PNW Concierge on the web. The home is not child-proofed - there are no covers on the outlets, or locks on cabinets containing cleaning products, etc. You are responsible for taking precautions to keep your children safe. The property is near a (quiet) road and is not fenced, please keep your children within sight distance. There are security cameras in the back yard. There are NO cameras inside the treehouse or cabin. Cameras are not monitored during guest stay. They are for security between stays only. The property is directly across the street from a body of water, please be aware of water safety. The property has an in-ground hot tub, play structure, fire pit and a treehouse available as an add on booking. Care must be taken in and around these items and on all parts of the property. Parental supervision is required at all times when on the property. In respect of our neighbors we ask for quiet time between 10pm and 8am. Please note that noise travels easily and far in this area. Property was everything and more! The cabin itself was perfect. Clean, beautiful, and functional. The outdoor areas and views were what really made this place. The hot tub was so nice. We ate all of our meals on the back covered porch. Wife and I talked about this being an every year tradition! Jackie was also amazing with her communication and prompt responses. Thanks again!!!

My wife and I stayed with 3 friends; it was absolutely perfect. The view is amazing, the house has everything you want on site (just bring food), and multiple ways to wind down and relax are provided: hot tub, covered patio, firepit w/ chairs. All of us enjoyed ourselves and we intend to make this a regular event.

Jackie was great, helpful, and easy to work with. Property was actually a little better than advertised. While it looks great as it’s listed, it’s even a little better, when you get there. The deck and Jacuzzi are obvious features, but I really enjoyed laying in the hammock, looking up at trees, or out into the ocean. It was the serenity that we all needed.

We wanted a family getaway for the 4 of us (parents and two teens), and this was perfect in every way. The property is beautiful and the cabin is so cozy and comfortable. The woodstove kept us warm inside and the hot tub kept us warm outside. Wonderful place to unplug, relax, and retreat. We'll definitely be back.

This is a cozy beautiful home tucked away in the woods which makes for a magical holiday weekend. The amenities are really great, loved the beer/beer guide provided! Thoroughly enjoyed the outdoor amenities as well, cedar hot tub not to be missed. The beds are very comfy and the living space was great for catching World Cup. The fireplace is nice in the rain but we were still drawn outside to some fun activities on the property.
