The location was great, the facility was very clean and modern, the hosts were great, and the entire facility was well equipped. Simply a fine facility.
Two of the guests in our party were 82 years old and struggled on the steep stairs to the facility. The younger two guests did not have any problems with the stairs. Overall, the stairs were not a big issue as the younger guests help the older ones up and down.
The twin bed bedroom had the second twin bed come out from under the main twin bed and the mattress was in essence on the floor. This was an issue for the two guests in the room as the upper bed person had to be careful not to step on the lower person when getting in and out of bed. This could be solved with a roll away bed or installation of a Murphy bed in in lieu of the mattress that came out from under the single bed.
The shower was great, but there were no hand rails to help the 82-year-olds get in and out. The tub part of the shower did not have any anti-slip coating and we simply went to Walmart and bought an anti-slip pad which we left in place when we left.
We realize that Kodiak is not San Francisco and the joy of coming to Kodiak is more important that these issues.

The apartment above the garage is comfortable with well equipped kitchen. The owner offered us use of laundry machines downstairs. It’s winter in Kodiak and the owners made sure the walkways and stairs were not icy. The bedding smelt fresh and clean, the shower had hot water for 3 people in a row, it’s a short drive to Safeway and Walmart. The apartment was warm when we stepped in. We had to go to Kodiak as a relative passed away suddenly. There were not many options available. The other places in Kodiak available to rent goes through a management company where you have another layer of people and paperwork-contracts and security deposits to deal with which is a major hassle. The stay at Spruce Patch and dealing directly through Booking was simple and hassle free. So glad we stayed true to the Booking platform and dealt directly with the owners at Spruce Patch. The small attentive gestures from the owners added up to a lot.
In the morning, you can see the sunrise from the living area. Stay here and you will not regret your choice. As someone who uses this app exclusively for lodging, Spruce Patch is true to the booking experience.
There is nothing negative to say. It is a 11 out of 10.
