The mattress on the bed was far too soft.

The only hotel in Vancouver with some character! Beds comfortable, no sound disturbance at night. Right next to the Pacific Ocean and close to restaurants and theatres.

The age and the architecture of the building gives it a very homey and cozy feeling to the hotel 🏨

What an incredible surprise! What a beautiful room with exposed beams, well decorated, great mattress, hot shower. Restaurant food was top notch. Staff was kind and ready to serve. Special call out to housekeeping which went the extra mile in providing timely service. Check-in and check-out was prompt. And the location was perfect. Close to great takeout restaurants, Starbucks, beach, etc.

The Sylvia is a great place to stay in Vancouver. The hotel restaurant is very good and the area is walkable and English Bay and the beach are just steps away.

The Sylvia is one of a kind. An old fashioned, courteous, beautiful hotel overlooking English Bay where most guests have stayed for generatons. The staff coldn't be nicer and the restaurant is excellent. Parking easy and the rooms are a great value. We love the Sylvia! (and have been coming for 60 years)

Great location, only one little complain about lack of heat in bathroom.

The building is older so therefore the rooms and the furnishings represent as such. Old amenities, like the fan in room was so old it was yellowing, and also the blankets provided were ratted. Our room was overall clean, however there were very few electrical outlets that actually work.
The location of this hotel however can’t be beat. Very walkable to everything and it overlooks the water.

You can always tell when a company is invested in their business the employees smile seem happy and they are only there when you need them. It is truly part of the Canadian tradition.

This was my second stay at the Sylvia. The location on the English Bay is beautiful, and the hotel has a great deal of history and character.
Everyone on staff was helpful and cheerful. The servers at the lounge

I don't know how many hotels I booked using this site, and this was the first time it felt like the guest rating was misleading.
Let's start with what's good about this hotel: kind hotel staff (excluding restaurant) and location.
Hotel is very old and it shows everywhere, needs to be renovated to be an accaptable alternative at this price range in Vancouver.
We stayed on the 6th floor and the hotel had only one small functional elevator that didn't feel safe at all to ride. Going up or carrying luggages, etc. felt like it took forever.
Problems with rooms are a long list, but I would point out the most important ones.
The electric heating system is antiquated, looked rusty. The room we booked had two rooms, one room with 2 queen beds and the other one with a twin bed. Heating control was only in the big room and even after setting it to maximum, the small room stayed extremely cold throughout the night while the big room was barely comfortable, but still cold.
The bathroom floor was so uneven, you can't open the door for an adult to get access without it getting stuck on the floor. Pushing the door fully made so much noise, it woke up others in the room.
The matresses and pillows were very soft, probably most uncomrfable sleep we all had in a long time.
Lastly, the restaurant staff were really rude, our server got very angry when we asked for extra bread for our toddler's soup, claimed they don't have any bread. He brought us some after we complained to other servers.

We enjoyed the historical aspect of the hotel. It is also well situated, with lots of wonderful ethnic food restaurants within walking distance. The walk along English Bay is beautiful!

It took 10 hours to warm up the room.
The bathroom tiles has many patches.
The bed frame was sticking out and I hot my foot which swelled.
The location of the hotel is very nice though.

This iconic hotel is right on English Bay and boasts an amazing vista from the south facing rooms. The cost/benefit of the rooms make this a worthwhile getaway!
Super friendly staff, btw. Kudos to them!

Last minute booking, queen standard room on 8th floor with partial view of English Bay. Great customer service received from the front desk, room service, restaurant. Comfy room, could have been cleaner hair(s) in shower. Wonderful area, close to park, restaurants, the parking is great here (shhhhh, and only 25$). Elevators need attention. Nice old charming and quaint property.

My wife and I enjoyed our stay at the Sylvia Hotel. We had English Bay at our door step and we explored the outstanding selections of shops and restaurants from the Sylvia Hotel, our home away from home in this part of this beautiful city.
The Sylvia Hotel put the city at our fingertips. A lovely place to stay and one we highly recommend

Old school hotel- actually give you one only metal key to use. Older but updated and clean bathrooms. Queen rooms bit tight but by old hotel room sizes.
