The stay was comfort but expensive for what it was. I was in the back of the hotel so no views and all sounds of the kitchens. One good point was a bath instead of just a shower but the standard of decorating needs very much doing.

Hotel looks tired on outside, however lobby is very nice. Staff were very nice, but room was very tired and poorly decorated. Apalling view from room. Not worth the money. I understand some rooms have been refurbished. Ours hadn’t.

Good,pet friendly hotel, our mutt loves it.Clean and maybe slightly dated but it's great location wise,highly recommended.

We come to this hotel every year for the last five years On arrival I couldn’t believe their was no carpet on the stairs and lots of renovations The room was nice but outside the room it was a trip hazard with underlay pieces to step over and dusty not good for an asthmatic The maid didn’t come into the room wasn’t told to put towels outside the door until two days in Our tea and coffee was only filled with two tea bag’s for two people and one had already been open so we had to keep asking reception for supply’s We didn’t have no hot water to have a bath etc told reception it took three days to get hot water reception didn’t seem interested Raved about how nice the hotel was to my parents who we treated for Christmas and they had no heating at all they told reception never came up terrible for two 84 year olds no soap in shower and no rails to be hold onto also no telephone in the room which we feel is a must in case of an emergency Breakfast was good but we had to keep asking for things like orange juice fresh cups bread soya milk when they brought the bread out it was frozen told the waitress and she said that’s how it is Spoilt such a lovely time with great weather

We were not made aware that the hotel was undergoing a major refurbishment or we would not have booked. We had to negotiate bare floorboards on the landing which were uneven broken and definitely a health and safety hazard. The room was ok but in need of updating and cleaning as cobwebs were everywhere, The toilet dripped constantly. I think we had been upgraded but no one mentioned it. Heaven knows what the previous room would have been like??? Baggage storage did not feel secure, told to just leave behind a counter nowhere near reception as would be ok as CCTV in place. Not convinced! Needs urgent upgrade. Should have been advised before arrival if the refurbishment not on a notice on the reception desk. Plus side good location, fantastic old building.

Very nice

I love the Royal and have gone there for years. It's a great position with a lovely view from the bar. Rooms are clean and a comfy bed. A little tired ( Very minor issues). Staff are lovely. Shame that the pool has shut permanently.
