It would have been nice to have a microwave in the room.

The hotel did not have many front desk staff working during prime check-in time which meant that many guests were kept waiting in line for 15-20 minutes. The hotel was undergoing what seemed like an astoundingly long (3 full days!) test of their fire safety and alarm system which meant that piercing alarms were going off non-stop in the lobby area from 9am-4:30pm.
It was a ROUGH check-in and we nearly asked for a refund so that we could seek accommodations elsewhere. That said, the front desk agent was pleasant and professional. The lobby was clean.
Rooms are spacious but average in decor and comfort. There is obvious mildew / mold spotting in the showers so cleanliness could be a bit better. This is a very convenient option if visiting JMU — it’s basically on campus. But if you’re looking for more creature comforts, you probably could find them elsewhere.

Very beautiful hotel. Our room was clean and comfortable. The convenience of location to town and the JMU was a plus. We ate the breakfast buffet at the restaurant which had a lot of options.

The hotel staff was personable and helpful. The internet access in the lobby was sufficient. However, we were unable to gain access to the internet from our room which was inconvenient. While the room appeared clean, it smelt of wet dog.

Beautiful lobby and the room was comfy but the pillows are terrible! I was so happy I brought my own pillow.
Room was quiet and staff was friendly. It was annoying that only 3 out of 7 floors have ice vending though.
Probably will not stay here again.

Overall the Hotel was very clean, excellent service. Easy to get to from I-81
Nice fitness center and salt water pool. Nice breakfast for an additional fee (fee for parking as well)
THE Downside.... Have to walk a ways from parking garage to hotel. Bed was Very Firm!!! Sheets had a stain and were rough. Bathroom door was off its track. Shower sprayed water all over the bathroom floor. The heater was really noisy. Tiny fridge with no freezer for my blue ice while taveling.
Personally I will try a different hotel next time I travel North on I-81

Great location and convenient to the event that I supported. The ONLY challenge was that the bed was too hard. Some may like this; I do not. The young man at the desk for check in and check out was EXCEPTIONAL!

Rented 3 rooms for a family event for a single night. In the morning we discovered that there was no hot water. At check out, the hotel staff admitted that they were aware of the issue and that it been occurring for more that a week. Very surprising that a hotel of this caliber would not warn their guest of the issue or offer a discounted rate.

Everything is great at the James Madison with one exception. The coffee from the pods they is horrible.

The housekeeping staff could improve their cleanliness efforts. There were areas that were definitely neglected in the bathroom and the kitchen. For instance, there was visible hair in the shower, dust/dirt in floor corners and unfortunately INSIDE Kuerig!! While I usually, pack wipes and disinfectant spray, it is unfavorable to NEED to do it versus doing it out of habit. Additionally, cookware and utensils were not properly stocked in the kitchen. While, guest services were responsive (i.e. arriving within 15 minutes of call), these are the little inconveniences that affect guest experience. This rating could be lower, but the friendliness of the staff contributed to a more favorable rating (i.e. 3 stars)

The showers did not have hot water. One shower was full of hair and wouldn't drain. When we called the front desk they said they couldn't get maintenance in until after 9:00, after we were already checking out to leave. They wouldn't adjust the bill because it was reserved through Travelocity/Expedia.

Our stay was good. We got there and a live band was playing in the lobby and the whole place was decorated for Christmas. It felt festive and welcoming. However the room
Smelled musty and the tub in the shower had a very slow drain. Water was up to the ankles by the time one finished showering.

Hotel Madison is the place to stay in Harrisonburg. It is next to the JMU campus and a short walk to downtown Harrisonburg with interesting restaurants and bars. The hotel lobby is lovely, as is the bar and restaurant next to the lobby. The rooms are clean, well appointed, and comfortable. Our room has a nice view of the mountains. A great hotel at a good price.

We enjoyed our stay, however, we did experience clogged plumbing and an unheated pool which were both disappointing. Plumbing was addressed in short order which was appreciated and overall stay was lovely.

Beautiful property! The rooms were clean and super quiet, and the area was lovely and safe. Our only complain was that the sheets weren’t as soft as expected and the toilet paper was very low quality for the cost of the stay. But very minor compared to how lovely the overall experience was. Would definitely stay again!
