There was no view from the window except into the back of a block of flats in close proximity, therefore our room was dark and gloomy. In order to get some privacy we had to keep our blind mostly drawn.
Room service does not exist unless you text for it, the safe didnt lock with out main key from reception and the AC was noisy (and the bar) on a couple of evenings. Be careful on the stairs as the top step is a different height to the rest of the stairs.
Everything is done remotely, prefer old fashioned service , face to face.

Spacious room, modern amenities, easy contactless check-in/out process and great location,

Service is declining.
I stay at the Annex many times a year. It was a minimalist take on a hotel and was comfortable and enjoyable. The mornings greeted with a pastry and lovely hot beverage.
At recent visits to the hotel our stay has had sub-par water temperatures, no plants in the rooms (I guess if you didn’t know they existed you might not care, but the warmth it adds to the plain white room is noticeable when you see it) and most recently the breakfast service was downgraded to no longer offering a lovely latte, americano or flat white, as the included beverage but to basic drip coffee or tea.
The hotel already has a virtual concierge service so saving the nickle on a human interaction is already in place. Why can’t guests enjoy some other quality niceties in their place?

I felt confident the room was clean because the smell was strong of cleaner but I opened a window and it went away. Be prepared to self check in and get texted your pass codes so you can just walk into your room. Even though I missed that memo the staff were extremely friendly and helpful and I gave this a 5 star rating mostly because of the amazing responsiveness of staff.

Nice place to stay. Fridge in the room which isn't mentioned in the hotel listing. No coffee machine or kettle in the room so we brought our own. The free coffee and breakfast in the cafe is very nice. No parking but the lot one block away is reasonable ($40 for 24 hrs). It's nice but maybe a bit too hipster for some.

Stayed for one night, area was easy to get to with paid parking at a reasonable price across the street. Room was very clean and modern with a very comfy bed. Really enjoyed my stay

Excellent staff. Great rooms. Great lounge area. Great neighbourhood. Nice to have coffee and a pastry included. Also nice to have a dog friendly space. Would stay here again.

Good for the price! Would stay again.

Pros:
- Conveniently located, depending on where you need to be
- Comfty beds
- Unique vibe
- Several hangout places, bars/cafes on site
- Fairly quite neighbourhood, especially at night
- Toiletries and towels were high quality
Cons
- Room and hotel are quite basic for the price
- Room is good for sleeping but not much else; there was a desk with chair and a small chair for putting on your shoes, but otherwise the bed is the only place to hang out in the room. My bed was in an alcove so I constantly needed to crawl over it to access light switches, plug-ins, or aything else by the bed.
- Sound in the hotel travels. I repeatedly heard people loudly walking around or entering rooms while trying to fall asleep.
- No coffee maker in room. Electric kettle was listed in the amenties but wasn't provided. I noticed when leaving that kettles (along with some dishes and other wares) were stored in an nook on the other side of the floor
- A basic breakfast (1 coffee item and 1 menu item) is provided but its in another building and you need to walk outside to get there. Less than ideal first thing in the morning, especially when its -20C out and snowing... also a hassle to bring your items back to the room if you don't plan to eat in the cafe.

Very friendly staff, cool place. I did hear some stomping from the room above me through the night, but other than that, very comfortable and quiet.

As an outsider, I loved waking up to the view of the CN tower and the city. Then in the mornings, the breakfast was super nice and much better than my expectations. All in all, a great spot for your pup and a partner :)

We really enjoyed our stay at The Annex. Many food options very close and easy access to public transportation. Just keep in mind that there is no elevator.

This hotel is in an area of west Bloor Street known as the
Annex (from which the hotel takes its name). It's trendy/funky, the district and the hotel. The hotel is in a very old building. The bedrooms have been all turned into modern, but the bed is a mattress on a plywood box, there are essentially no amenities, no TV (but there was a record player!), no coffee, no bedside clock, no usb ports, and everywhere you
went, including the bars and breakfast area requires moving
from one part of the building to another through doors that
require four digit codes. Parking is a nightmare. There is a
small city run parking lot right outside the hotel that charges $2.25 a half hour. Figure out the cost for an afternoon arrival and overnight stay. We stayed at another lot, not far away, again city-run and paid $43 for less than 24 hours. Most importantly, mid afternoon on a Saturday the lot was completely full. We waited and eventually a spot was vacated. I think the owners are new and inexperienced. The place may improve but for the moment, we wouldn't return. We rated 2 stars for staff and service. There was neither. This hotel runs by itself with text
messages. On the other hand this part of Bloor Street is really interesting - great bars, restaurants, shops.

We had a great stay at the Annex overall. The only issues were a bit of confusion with the door entry code (we were sent the wrong code at check in) that got sorted out very quickly, and concern regarding the left luggage.
We arrived before check in as our train was early and was advised we could leave our luggage at the hotel for the day. It was placed behind a desk but when we got back that evening there was a party in the bar/lobby and the desk where our luggage was was being used by a DJ. We didn’t feel that this is particularly secure for luggage storage.

Great spot to stay if you're going to the nearby theatre.

Very cool Euro-style hotel. Not your average complimentary breakfast with excellent coffee. A fun stay.

I had no hot water and no kleenex on a chilly November night. Cleanliness of the bathroom tile grout wasn't the cleaniest. Bed was large and comfortable, and for a "small room" I found it was spacious for the most part.
Complimentary breakfast was great. Quality coffee and ingredients.

accommodating as always. my initial door code didn’t work but the staff was able to fix the problem in under 10 minutes upon arriving. will always look to come back whenever i make a trip to toronto.

It’s a nice facility, very unique! The room is nice and clean.
Only things is the loud notice I heard in the middle of the night. Not sure it was from outside or the building itself, it did woke me from sleep.

There were lots of things I loved about this hotel - the location (funky neighbourhood and easy to get to/from airport by train), the ultra comfy bed, nice toiletries, great shower, nice wine bar downstairs, good cappuccino in the morning, etc.
However, one of the biggest drawbacks was the MANDATORY upload of selfie + govt issued ID. There was a discussion of "refund scenarios" if I did not comply. Not that welcome after 15+ hours of travel! And for a prepaid room! Maybe I've spent too much time in Europe where personal data actually belongs to the individual, or maybe it's because I work in insurance where I see the fallout of data privacy breaches, but being forced to provide personal information to a 3rd party for an unknown length of time, for unknown uses is not ideal. I'm not even sure if it's legal.
Other minor drawbacks: "breakfast" is only one drink and one food item per person. There were no spare toilet rolls in the room and there was only the remnants of a roll when I arrived. The bed is against the wall, so only one side accessible. These were all fine for me as I was travelling solo, but I think it would have been a different story if my partner had been with me.
The guy who helped me check in was great (I wish I could remember his name!), but the staff in the breakfast room were less than friendly.
I don't think I would stay here again or recommend this hotel based on the privacy issue alone. Shame, because it does have a lot to offer.

The rooms are very clean and interesting and different architecturally. Our breakfast at the café was excellent with very good coffee and nice croissants and a delicious yoghurt concoction. Staff on site were friendly and responsive this hotel was very upbeat, with a trendy ambience.

Clean properly
Don’t like the fact it has no TV in the rooms

Excellent staff (Linda and Jason) and location. Within easy walking distance to restaurants and shops. Target market seems to be people under thirty, and with me being much older I can only give a good recommendation.

Have to pay for expensive parking. Was modern and nice just nothing fancy for how much it is.
4.0
Rooms are comfortable, modern and quaint.
Noise transfers easily from hallway and rooms above with keyless entry beeping and doors slamming which detracted from the overall experience. Very convenient location for exploring on foot, great food options nearby.

I had an amazing stay here with my boyfriend, the room was spotless and had a very nice and modern decor with hardwood flooring, there was a variety of items available to use like kettles, cutlery and extra linens. We loved the lobby/cafe lounge, it was very clean and all the staff were friendly and attentive to any of our needs. We had the studio room and it worked perfectly for our two night stay, there were lots of great food spots to go to in the area, and the hotel security felt safe. There was no TV to connect to watch movies but there was a large iPad Pro which which came in handy for playing music and watching movies on.
10.0
The Annex will be the hotel we use next time we are going to an event in Toronto.
The "dirty" comment about the area around the hotel is because the entrance we used was off a city owned lane way.
5.0
Excellent free breakfast - continental and different.
Friendly and knowledgeable staff.
Quiet residential neighborhood close to main street with subway access and many restaurants/shops.
One minor problem: the bathroom floor lets water accumulate rather close to the toilet. An extra towel helps that. Bathroom floor not slippery like so many are today which is good for safety.
I would definitely stay there agin - we did 10 nights!
